Hi,
Typically, only the owner of the TP-Link account the camera is bound to can change the TP-Link account's password or the camera account password on the Tapo app > Advanced Settings > Camera Account page.

Have you shared your TP-Link account with others so they can change the camera account password? If not, it is possible that your TP-Link account has been known by someone else.

Below are some suggestions to protect your TP-Link account.
  1) Change your passwords regularly. (It's recommended to change your TP-Link account password soon: What can I do if I forget my password of the cloud account)

  2) Use complex passwords (a mixture of upper and lower letters, numbers, and symbols) when signing up.

  3) Use a unique password different from other website accounts to avoid being involved in their accidental data breaches.

  4) Enable the 2FA feature on the Tapo app to protect your account.

Best Regards

Me and brother both have access to tp link account and he not that tech savy. I confirmed with him he didn't changed the password. I have followed your recommendations however is possible we can get login notifications and intruders ip address for further actions. I suspect its quite possible they have access to my tp link archer c5 router as well. What your advise on this ?

Hi,
If you have enabled the 2FA feature on the Tapo app, when a new device logs into the Tapo app with your TP-Link account, it's required to enter a Verification Code sent to the trusted devices or your email. You can notice whether you received a Verification Code to see if there is a new device trying to log in to the Tapo app with your account. Without the Verification Code, the new device is unable to log in to the Tapo app.
On the Tapo app > Me > View Account > Login Security, you can tap Trusted Devices to see what are your trusted devices.

If you are worried that someone can log in to the Tether app to access or manage your Wi-Fi router, you can also change the password of the TP-Link account used to log in to the Tether app and enable the 2FA feature on the Tether app to protect that TP-Link account.

Best Regards

@Solla-topee  My route archer c5 v4 is not supported by Tether application.

I will ask my friend to do some forensic check on router.

I know TP links do have some vulnerabilities with devices and that company don't patch them as soon as i get details i will post them.

Actually i wanted to know about way to know who accessed account before enabling 2fa that i enabled last day.

Ideally it should be on by default.

Thanks for your guidance.

Hi,
1. If you want to report vulnerabilities to TP-Link, please refer to the instructions here "TP-Link Product Security Advisory".

2. You can contact our privacy team for further assistance if you want to know who accessed the TP-Link account before enabling 2FA.

Best Regards
