Tapo C510W - RTSP not working on 1 out of 2 cams
Tapo C510W - RTSP not working on 1 out of 2 cams

I have 2 Tapo C510W on the same network - I cannot get RTSP feed on the V2 model (Cam2)
Cam1 - all working fine
Model: C510W
Hardware version: 1.0
Firmware Version: 1.3.3
Version: 1.3.3 Build 250228 Rel.56467n
Cam2 - no RTSP, no Ping
Model: C510W
Hardware version: 2.0
Firmware Version: 1.1.2
Version: 1.1.2 Build: 250228 Rel.53290n
Both cameras on the same WiFi SSID along with the PC trying to RTSP.
Both cameras work fine on Tapo App.
Both cameras recording to SD card.
No Tapo Care on either camera
Both cameras detected as ONVI cameras and successfully added and streaming to Synology Surveillance Station
RTSP works for Cam1 via VLC, PotPlayer and iSpy using:
rtsp://myuserid:mypassword@192.168.1.111:554/stream1
I can also directly ping Cam1
For Cam2 I cannot directly ping Cam2
RTSP does not work for any stream (stream1, stream2, stream8)
(I've tried VLC, PotPlayer)
VLC error: Your input can't be opened. VLC is unable to open the MRL 'rtsp://myuserid:mypassword@192.168.1.222:554/stream2'. Check the log for details.
Cam1 and Cam2 are found as ONVIF cameras by Synology Surveillance Station
But other software (iSpy) can't see Cam2 and can't find stream info from:
http://192.168.1.222:2020/onvif/device_service
I've also tried:
- resetting Cam2
- allocating different/static IP to Cam2
Should I be able to directly ping the C510W V2 Cam2 like the V1 Cam1?
Thanks.

@Solla-topee thank you for your question re the network configuration it got me digging deeper and I've now got the C510W V2 RTSP feed working.
There is some network issue blocking the V2.
Network config.
Both cameras C510W V1 and V2 are connected to an Archer X55 router IoT wireless network.
The PC was connected to a Deco X50-POE mesh device that is ethernet backboned to the X55 router.
Whilst the PC is on the same IoT SSID network when connected to the Deco mesh device it could only ping and RTSP the V1, not the V2.
If I connect the PC direct to the Archer X55 router wifi (and IoT SSID network) I can ping and RTSP both the C510W V1 and V2.
So there is some network issue that is blocking the PC and (only) the V2 connecting when the PC is on the Deco mesh unit and the V2 is on the main router.
Now that I know it's a network issue/config - I've been able to confirm the C510W V2 can stream RTSP. And for me I'm getting streams to:
1) SD card
2) Tapo App (EDIT: turns out Tapo App was using 720P stream. Switching to 2K, forced RTSP to have to use stream2 )
3) Synology Surveillance Station (ONVIF)
4) RTSP (stream1)
Now, I need to dig into the Router/Deco mesh config to try to understand why only the V2 is being blocked.
Thanks.

@otislucy I have experienced the same issue. even tried removing the sd card. apparently the v2 is not the same hardware as the v1. you'll notice there is no low res option and instead of 1080p it has 720p. its like the deleted all the cool stuff between versions and now the v2 is basically trash. If you also notice the connection to your nvr becomes incrdibly unstable after you open up the app to look at the cam. its like they removed the second steam and added some adaptive streaming. I personally wish i knew of this before buying my second 510. for what its lacking they are charging way too much.

@wbarber69 thanks for that. Very disappointing from tp-link that it appears that they've removed functionality in the later V2 model.
I'd be interested to hear from tp-link if this is a permanent hardware restriction in the V2 models, or something that could be rectified with a firmware update.
Wonder if different models (e.g. C520WS) suffer similar restrictions?
Thanks.

Hi,
We did a test with the Tapo C510W V2 and confirmed it's no problem to establish the RTSP stream with the camera. For the reported issue, please help confirm the following information for further analysis.
1. On the computer connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Tapo C510W V2, if you can't ping the camera's IP address successfully, it's suggested to describe your network diagram in detail, and please check if there are special settings configured on the router for the camera, such as VLAN, AP isolation, etc.
2. How many devices stream the Tapo C510W V2's live feed simultaneously, including streaming the camera via the Tapo app and the ONVIF protocol?
3. Please check the Video Quality configured on the Tapo C510W V2. If there are devices that stream the camera via the Tapo app, is the device connected to the same Wi-Fi as the camera? What's the URL used when streaming the camera via ONVIF?
Please note that no more than three devices can stream the camera simultaneously in the local network.
Best Regards

the problem isn't that the stream cannot be setup and viewed from the nvr. The problem is that when the camera does anything, like detect motion, it interrupts the feed and makes it unusable. My nvr says the error is that the stream doesn't report its file size or some nonsense like that. Couple that with the fact that I have zero issues from a V1 configured exactly the same way. I have no Tapo care on these cameras. And you are correct, if I try to open the app at all and view the camera or if the camera detects motion and sends me a notification through the app, the entire sub stream goes offline to my nvr. I've even tried disabling and removing the sd card completely and it's no difference. Like I've stated before, it's like there isn't even two streams available at all. More like there's one stream that is dynamically changing its quality depending on how many users are viewing the same stream. This one of 5 cameras. They all function normally except for this one and only 510w V2. All my other cams are V1.
when I'm able to get back home I'll post my nvr logs to prove to you that this camera is completely unreliable. And the fact that there are multiple posts about this in your forums and this is your response proves that your tech guys didn't actually look into the issues as they've been reported.

you may just be onto something or you may have just found yourself in the perfect case scenario that you camera worked for that one instance. See I can do the same. I can view the sub streams from my app or from my nvr at any time. But when it comes to actually being able to record from the sub stream when the camera is actually detecting motion at the same time is still a no go. That's the issue I'm having. It seems like everything is setup and working but then I'm constantly being notified that my cameras are offline for extended periods of time. Which what I am seeing is like I described. Once the camera itself is doing any recording, it is dropping off from the nvr because even with my app closed, it can't do both sd recordings and anything else. Which is completely contrary to everything support has tried to tell me on the matter. Yes o can open the rtsp stream at anytime, but if it starts detecting motion then that feed becomes unstable and choppy and my nvr is reporting some issue about not receiving the rtsp file size from the stream.

For me it definitely was just a network issue.
Further digging today found that I'd blocked the V2 device on the Deco mesh units (to force it to join the closer router).
This was then blocking it from any other device that connected via the Deco mesh units. (Hence I could see/stream it when I was directly connected to the router)
Luckily for me I haven't seen the issues you listed for your V2. I've been testing and watching RTSP stream (via VLC), Surveillance Station and the Tapo App all at the same time. The streams have not glitched even when the Tapo detects motion.
I hope you can get your V2 resolved as it's frustrating when you've got one device (the V1) that just works, and the other doesn't.

Hi,
For the reported issue, please help confirm the following information for further analysis.
1. Please describe your network diagram. Are your NVR and the Tapo C510W V2 connected to the same router's same Wi-Fi network?
2. What's the model number of your NVR? You can test if the problem remains when streaming the camera with other apps/programs, such as VLC and iSpy.
3. What URL do you use when establishing the connection with your NVR?
Btw, usually, the camera won't change its RTSP stream video quality after the RTSP connection is established already.

@otislucy I'm having the same camera model and same issue and until now my camera does not detect my wifi. It happened to me several times now this year after the firmware update. But now it's getting worse. Do you have a solution already?
