If you're looking for an easy way to store videos from multiple cameras and are concerned about losing footage due to theft of the camera's SD card, the new feature of the Tapo Hub might be a great solution. In addition to supporting Tapo SubGHz devices, the Tapo Hub now also allows connection with the Tapo Wi-Fi cameras and doorbells, providing video storage and Wi-Fi backup capabilities.

Tapo hub supports connections with multiple cameras to store videos, now you can switch camera’s video storage path to the Tapo hub, without the need for getting separate microSD cards for each camera. Additionally, the Tapo hub can also function as a WiFi backup AP. When the camera’s Wi-Fi signal is too weak or gets interrupted, the camera can automatically switch to connect to the hub, ensuring uninterrupted operation.

AI Empowerment: Make Camera Smarter with Tapo H500

When you configure the camera videos to be stored on the Tapo H500 smart homebase, the hub transforms from merely a video storage device into a powerful AI-enhanced tool for the connected cameras.

This integration allows the cameras to access advanced functionalities that they might not support independently. Features include AI detection for people, vehicles, pets, and faces, along with facial recognition and tracking capabilities. Additionally, the hub supports HDMI output and USB access, further expanding the versatility and functionality of your smart home setup. To find out more: FAQs about the AI Empowerment of Tapo Smart HomeBase (Tapo H500)

  @Wayne-TP

Tapo H500 security controller will not connect to Tapo C560WS camera even though both have the latest firmware version and are on the compatibility list. I've attempted to pair the H500 and C560WS using both devices' menu options. Additionally, the camera/doorbell and the hub are connected to the same local network via ethernet cable.

  • Path One: Through Camera/Doorbell Setting

1. Open your Tapo app, enter the camera/doorbell's liveview page, and navigate to the Device Settings page.

2. Go to Storage & Recording > Local Storage > Storage Location

3. Choose 'Hub Storage' and select the Tapo hub where you want the videos to be stored.

4. Click Save in the top right corner to complete the configuration.

Steps to set Hub storage in the camera’s Device settings.

  • Path Two: Through Tapo Hub Setting

1. Open your Tapo app, go to Tapo Hub's product page. Click 'Manage' on the Connected Devices section.

2. Click the + icon in the top right corner, select 'Connect Existing Devices'. After discovery, choose and add the camera to the hub.

3. Once the camera is linked to the hub, return to the Connected Devices list, choose the camera that needs to change the video storage path.

4. Choose Storage Location, click 'Hub Storage' and select the Tapo hub where you want the videos to be stored.

5. Click Save in the top right corner to complete the configuration.

However, both options fail to add the camera to the hub as a storage location.

I've verified the following:
1. Confirmed that both devices are set up correctly within the Tapo app.
2. Ensured that the devices are on the same network via ethernet cable and that the hub is connected directly to the router.
3. Checked and found the Tapo C560WS camera is not listed as a device that requires the hub for operation, since it was setup first and was able to operate without the hub.

How can this issue be resolved? Or is this an issue for which there is currently no resolution?

From what I've learned, there are some glitches in Tapo C560WS's hub connection feature. The modifications are expected to be included in the next firmware version.

A beta firmware is available now. If you would like to try it out, send me a private message with the Mac address of your Tapo C560WS and the Tapo H500.
