How to schedule detection on/off on time ?
How to schedule detection on/off on time ?

Hi,
is it possible to schedule time for detection ? I mean I want the doorbell enable movement detection from 10pm to 7am for example, and disable during the day. I tried with privacy mode, but then even the doorbell press button does not work during the day.... so I need the doorbell press during the day, but not the detection.
is it possible like for the blink doorbell I replaced, or do I have to send the tapo doorbell and put back the blink ?

Hi,
The Tapo cameras do not support scheduling a time for the Detection feature. However, if you want to receive detection notifications and doorbell pressed notifications from 10 PM to 7 AM and receive only doorbell pressed notifications during the day, you can try the following settings.
1. Configure the Detection feature as per your needs.
2. Schedule on/off the camera's privacy mode through the Smart Action > Automation entries.
3. On the Tapo D230's Device Settings > Doorbell > Paired Chimes page, set the Effective Time to All Day(or only the daytime), click on your hub, and enable the Ring Connected Hub option. Usually, the hub will ring when someone presses the doorbell during the effective time.
4. On the Smart Action > Automation page, you can add an automation entry to send you a notification when the hub is ringing, which means you will receive a notification when someone presses the doorbell.

Hello,
thank you for suggesting. I've set that and will try that.
if it is not working, i'm sending it back and going back to the blink doorbell... the night video quality is way better on the tapo, but with detection all day, on the street, i'll have notifications every minutes.... so battery will last 2 weeks I guess....
sad. let's try this, we'll see today.

It doesn't work.
when in Privacy mode, no notifications at all whatever the condition.
this is crap. very disappointed. that is a basic use case I guess...

Hi,
You may try the following steps and check if they will help.
1. Configure the Detection feature as per your needs.
2. Schedule the notification settings rather than schedule on/off the privacy mode. For example, set a schedule to turn on the notification from 10 PM to 7 AM.
3. On the Tapo D230's Device Settings > Doorbell > Paired Chimes page, set the Effective Time to All Day(or only the daytime), click on your hub, and enable the Ring Connected Hub option. Usually, the hub will ring when someone presses the doorbell during the effective time.
4. On the Smart Action > Automation page, you can add an automation entry to send you a notification when the hub is ringing, which means you will receive a notification when someone presses the doorbell.

but that will just hide the notification. as I said, on a busy road, that will drain the battery very quickly with numerous detections for nothing ....

Hi,
When you configure the settings as described in this post, will the hub ring when you press the doorbell when the privacy mode is turned on?

Hi,
Tapo battery-powered cameras mostly stay in sleep mode to conserve energy. Battery power is consumed when the camera is awakened, starts detection and recording, or is viewed in the Tapo app. Frequent wake-ups and prolonged usage can quickly drain the battery.
Please note that enabling the camera's privacy mode usually does not affect the number of times the camera is woken up; however, it impacts the camera's detection, recording, and live stream features.
You can refer to the instructions to learn about how the camera wakes up.
Below are the instructions to troubleshoot when the camera's battery drains quickly.
What to do if the battery drains quickly on my Tapo battery-powered camera/doorbell?
When the Tapo D230 and the hub are running the latest firmware, the hub usually rings when someone presses the doorbell, even if privacy mode is turned on. If your hub is not ringing, please confirm the following information for further analysis.
1. Please confirm the firmware versions of the Tapo D230 and the hub H200.
2. Please send us a screenshot of the camera's Device Settings > Doorbell > Paired Chimes > H200 page.

thank you but sorry this is irrelevant... I understand all of this. This is why I don't want to shut movement detection notifications down, I want to keep the doorbell in sleep during the day, except when the button is explicitly pushed... in order to save battery.. but here it is either all (doorbell press and movement) either none... except of course if manually every morning and every evening I change it in the really badly ergonomic application...
This should be a standard functionality : schedule detection movement on and off, independently from doorbell press.
there should be a direct access to settings, and not within the app trying to wake up the doorbell (as you said to save er energy...)
there should be a widget to make a shortcut for turning detection on and off
there should be a direct access to events recordings, and not going through the app waking up the doorbell... still to save energy...
whatever, there are a lot of things to optimize and correct but I know TP-Link will just develop new peod instead of correcting or optimizing the old ones. I have Deco mesh system and same things happened. dozens of models and hardware versions, and not correcting bugs or trying to add functionalities to the old devices... there are just abandoned...

Hi,
1. If you follow the steps in this post to configure, the connected hub will ring when someone presses the doorbell. Your hub is not ringing, please confirm the following information for further analysis if you are willing to troubleshoot.
1) Please confirm the firmware versions of the Tapo D230 and the hub H200.
2) Please send us a screenshot of the camera's Device Settings > Doorbell > Paired Chimes > H200 page.
2. As you can see in the following FAQ, the camera can be woken up when doing some operations on the Tapo app, like watching the camera's live view. It can also be woken up by the PIR sensor.
What is the Wake-up Sensitivity of my battery camera/doorbell?
Whether the camera's detection feature is turned off or privacy mode is enabled, pedestrians on the street within the camera's monitoring range will still wake up the camera via the PIR sensor, and frequently waking up the camera can lead to increased battery consumption. The camera can't remain in sleep mode when facing a busy street, even if privacy mode is enabled.
However, if the detection feature is disabled or privacy mode is enabled, the camera will not detect events or save recordings, which can help save power.
We recommend referring to the article here for tips on extending the camera's battery life.
3. Thank you for your feedback regarding the camera's detection and recording functionalities. We will log it and forward it to the relevant department for evaluation.
Best Regards
