Hello,

I have Tapo outdoor cameras and doorbell camera, all with SD cards.

they work perfectly with my iPad and iPhone. High resolution images and good connections.

I've bought an Alexa Show 8 as I wanted to see the cameras when expecting a delivery.

Found out that to save their bandwidth bill, Tapo limit the camera to displaying for 10 minutes on the Alexa as it apparently goes through their servers and Amazon's instead of direct even though everything is using the same Wi-Fi. I gather the iPad and iPhone are direct?

There's a bigger issue than the annoying 10 minute limit though. And that's that randomly, sometimes within seconds of getting the Show to display a camera, the screen shows buffering and then returns to the home screen.

Amazon blame the router, electrical interference and other nonsense.

What's the truth Tapo? I'm assuming either Tapo or Amazon or both limit the available bandwidth to save money, and sometimes it's all used up by too many users being active and so we get the buffering error. Would this be right? Cos it sure isn't my fibre optic connection, router or electrical interference.

  @Chapster

Hi,
1. You can refer to the instructions below to know why you can't view the camera's live feed continuously in the Echo Show.
Why can't I view the live stream of the Tapo camera continuously?
Usually, you won't see the continue prompt on your iPad or iPhone when they are streaming the camera's live feed locally in the Tapo app.

2. When you see the phenomenon that can only stream the camera's live feed for seconds on the Echo Show, you can turn off the Wi-Fi on your iPhone and then stream the camera remotely in the Tapo app when using mobile data to check if our cloud service is working fine.

Best Regards

@Solla-topee the link states "Case 3. You are using third-party devices such as Google Home Hub, Echo Show, or Fire TV to view the camera's live stream".

Why is an Echo Show considered a third party device with these limitations on bandwidth and connection time, but iPhones and iPads are not?

Are there any plans to change things so direct streaming can be used with devices like Echo Shows, and not just iOS devices?

Hi,
The iPhone/iPad streams the Tapo camera using the Tapo app, which our company designs, so you won't see the 'Continue' prompt when streaming the camera's live feed locally. However, the Echo Show is not our product, and it streams the camera's live feed through our cloud server and Amazon's cloud server, so you will see the "Continue" prompt when watching the camera's live feed.

For the feature request to change things so direct streaming can be used with devices like Echo Shows, I'll log it and forward it to the relevant team for evaluation.

Best Regards
