H500 - SSD Problem
H500 - SSD Problem

Hello,
after some time, the H500 does not record anymore and the Harddisk is after a soft reboot not recognized anymore.
only after complete power on and off, it will work for some days again.
how can I diagnose this? I can kot find a way to get the log files for the H500
thanks and best regards
Florian

What hard disk do you use? We have a beta firmware that improves compatibility between the H500 and the hard drive. If you're interested in trying it out, send me a private message with the Mac address of your Tapo H500.

Beta firmware 1.2.0 Build 20250528 rel.41278 has been sent to your device. You may check it later in the Tapo app and perform the update.
Before the Upgrade:
(1) Please be sure you have read the Beta Test Agreement before upgrading the Pre-release firmware!
(2) How to update the firmware of the Tapo devices on the Tapo App
(3) Firmware downgrade is not supported. When a new official version is released, updating it will overwrite the beta version.

Hi Wayne! I'm experiencing similar issues with HDD disks. The device identifies the disk and formats it correctly. However, detection and AI features seem disabled I've tried reseting H500 and camera, restarting... and 2 different HDD devices. Toshiba and Seagate. However, when I remove the hard disk and leave the base with the original integrated memory, it works again with no issues.
Is there any known incompatibility with HDD? Should I use a newer SSD? Another thing I've noticed is that with a HDD installed the base gets really hot. Not sure if it could affect H500 electronics on the long term...
Thank you very much!
Aitor.

Hi Wayne,
I am using the Beta firmware since yesterday. The H500 stopped after about 24h again to record.
there is no error message, just no recording.
I restarted the Hub and the SSD was not found anymore. After some minutes powered off, and start again, the SSD showed up again.
I also noticed the temperature is quite high, I installed the Harddisk now without the tray and the cover open. Let's see if this changes something.
I also noticed the indicated temperature and Harddisk uptime is not correct. The temperature showed always exactly 30 degrees and no uptime. After today's reboot, I get a reading of exactly 40 degrees and a uptime of 17d2h.
Is the uptime a useage time of the SSD? Could be that I use it since 17days...
Are there not any logs to read?
definetly I would wish that my Hub throw an error if the recording stops. But it say it's all okay and the SSD is in a good health.
thabks for your support and let me know if I can support with more information if you need.
best regards
Florian

@Wayne-TP HI Wayne,
I am having similar issue.
I have been provided with 1.3.1 Build 20250729 rel.74558 - rebooted, and try to format and it comes up with error. It loads to 50% format and then just errors, but yet the H500 detects that there is a HDD there.
It was working upon set-up and had no issues, and now just cannot seem to use it.
I am using Seagate BarraCuda 4TB ST4000LM024
I have rebooted via the app, unplugged physically and waited before powering up. As well as trying to format by the app.
Any suggestions?

Adding to this thread.
soft reboot through app caused my HDD not to initialize.
This was a 2TB Toshiba Hard drive.
Unplugging and plugging back in the H500 brings it back to life. Seems to be a fw bug at this point. I was worried the drive bit the bullet at first.
