Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.4.2

I own 13 Tapo cameras at my work and home.

I use a small C100 outside my office door as a live feed to a Redmi A3 phone.

I have been running this setup for about 2 years without issue; the camera feed is live all day on the phone, which is used for nothing else but running the Tapo app for this purpose. I found this easier than setting up an RTSP or ONVIF setup.

A few days ago, the Redmi phone updated to Android 15 (V816.0.10.0), and ever since, the Tapo app's live view only stays up for 3–10 minutes and then crashes the whole phone, causing it to reboot.

The issue has rendered the entire setup useless to me. I cleared the app's cache with no result. I reinstalled the Tapo app (v3.14.116), which did not help, and finally factory reset the entire phone and reinstalled the Tapo app, but the problem persists.

Is this a known issue? If so, I will hang on for a bug fix; if not, I will scrap the setup for a different, more robust solution, even though I would like to remain in the Tapo ecosystem.

Please advise.

Hi,
Typically, streaming the camera's live feed on a phone won't cause the phone to crash or reboot. In your situation, please try streaming the camera with another phone to see if the same phenomenon occurs.

On your Redmi A3 phone, please check if any special apps are installed after the OS update, especially those related to VPN, firewall, and antivirus. It is recommended to uninstall them for a try.

Best Regards

Friday

@Solla-topee I have been facing the same problem. I am using a Redmi A3 too. I have tried all your aforementioned suggestions but nothing seems to solve the problem. I have got all the apps and the system up to date.

Hi,
For further analysis of the reported phenomenon, please confirm the following information.

  1. What are the Tapo camera's model number, hardware version, and firmware version?
  2. What's the OS version of your Redmi A3?
  3. On the Tapo app > Me > About page, please check the version info.
  4. Have you tried watching your camera on a different phone? If so, what's the phone's model number and OS version? Does the same phenomenon occur on that phone?
  5. Please send us a video showing the reported phenomenon. You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards
