Model: Tapo C425
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1,2,25

I have a C425 Camera hanging outside the front door, which everyone can see and anyone can steal. So I was pleased that the marketing blurb specifically mentions that the camera can't be moved without setting off an alarm.

So it came as a very big surprise to me one morning to see that the camera had fallen off its mounting and was lying on the floor. There wasn't an alarm or a recording showing this happening. If there were a motion sensor inside te camera, wouldn't it have sounded an alarm and started taking a video whilst falling or having rested on the ground at least?

Which brings me to my second point: don't used the ineffective 3M double sided tape to secure the mounting to any surface. I used it on two cameras only - one inside and one outside - and both cameras fell down (and neither of them raised an alarm or recorded the time of impact.) Useless.

Any inputs regarding what I may have missed in the set-up greatly appreciated.

  @Gozzle

Please double-check the hardware version of your Tapo C425, the anti-alarm feature is supported on the V2 device, but it is not available on V1.

Did you enable this feature in the Tapo app in advanced? >> Go to camera Device Settings page, click Alarms, then enable Anti-theft Alarm.

 @Wayne-TP I appear to have V1. So that means any thief can remove my Tapo Camera without any alarm or notification being sent to me, turn it off, so that it no longer sends alarms and then break into my house - all whilst I'm sleeping?

Could you please confirm what the concept of the Tapo security camera environment actually is and how monitoring can be safely implemented?

Thanks

The camera can sound alarms on itself and send notifications to your phone when it detects activity, providing a certain level of security. While security cameras can help improve home safety, they should not be relied on as the only solution. If an intruder can easily reach the camera, they could simply block its view without removing the device. Other security measures should also be taken to enhance home security, for example, reinforcing physical security, such as raising fences, upgrading locks, or adding other barriers.
