Motion-activated spotlight missing on Tapo C660 KIT
Hello TP-Link Team,
I recently bought a Tapo C660 KIT and noticed that, although the camera has built-in spotlights and supports Full-Color Night Vision, there is currently no option in the Tapo app to automatically turn on the spotlight when motion is detected.
Many other Tapo models (e.g., C320WS, C325WB, C420) already support the “Turn on spotlight when motion detected” feature, so it would be great if this could be added to the C660 through a future firmware update.
My setup:
- Model: Tapo C660 KIT (EU version)
- Hardware Version: V1.60
- Firmware Version: 1.1.3 Build 250822 Rel.1035n
- Power source: Solar + Battery
Please forward this as a feature request to the development team — the camera performs very well, and adding this automation would make it even better for night-time security use.
Thank you very much!
Best regards,
Lali

Hi,
The feature you request is the Smart Mode on the Night Mode Settings page. Currently, the battery-powered cameras do not have this mode, but selecting Full-Color mode may have a similar performance.
For example, when the Tapo C660 is in Night mode and selects Full-Color mode, it will enter sleep mode when no event is detected, and the spotlight will turn off. When an event is detected, the camera will wake up, and the spotlight will turn on. However, manually accessing the camera in the Tapo app, such as watching its live feed, will also wake up the camera, and the spotlight will turn on.

Hi Solla-topee,
Thank you, that solved the issue! 😊
However, I’ve noticed another problem:
Sometimes when I open the live view, it lags or freezes, and the video looks strange or delayed. When I watch a recorded clip, it either stutters heavily, speeds up randomly, or completely freezes.
Also, when the camera detects motion and starts to follow a person, the tracking seems choppy or stuttering.
Why could this be happening?
Best regards,
Lali

Hi,
The reported phenomenon may be caused by the camera's weak signal strength. You can refer to the instructions to check and improve the camera's network connection.
How to check and improve the network connection stability of Tapo smart devices
Please confirm the following information if the same phenomenon persists.
1. On the camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, please tap the Wi-Fi icon and check the RSSI value.
2. Does your camera store video recordings on our cloud server, the inserted SD card, or a Tapo Hub(H200 or H500)?
3. Could you please send us the videos showing the reported phenomenon? You can upload the videos to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Hi Solla-topee,
Thank you for the reply!
The camera is installed very close to the modem, with excellent Wi-Fi strength on the 5 GHz network. I’ve already checked the connection quality to make sure it’s stable and strong.
The recordings are stored on a microSD card.
Best regards,
Lali
