Geofencing is unreliable works intemittently
Ive bought 3 tapo cameras and have geofencing setup to take them off privacy mode when i leave an area around my house and to reactivate when i enter that area.
I have the automation setup correctly and triple verified it. I removed some "if" conditions to eliminate any snags.
Power settings for TAPO, GPS and my phone in general are all on full power options. No restriction. No sleeping app.
The geofencing feature seems to work very intermittently. The leave function works a bit more reliably but the return home function rarely works. I have tried all sorts of troubleshooting and settings alterations but i can not figure out what the problem is.
I am close to returning them if i cant rely on the geofencing feature to work.
I have pictures of my settings below. I dont know what if anything im missing. This should work more than it does.

General Questions about Tapo Geofencing
Please also ensure the following settings are configured on your phone, and then check if they help.
1) Please go to the battery settings on your phone for the Tapo app, on the Battery saver page, select No restrictions.
2) Please check the Location permission for the Tapo app on your phone, ensure the Location permission is allowed all the time, and the Use precise location option is enabled.
If the same phenomenon persists, please confirm the following information.
1. What's your camera's model number, hardware, and firmware version?
2. What's the model number and OS version of your phone? What's your Tapo app version?

Thank you for reply. It works only 1 or 2 times a week. I set everything as described except the Q3 set active an 1 second. I fear it would drain to much battery. But i'll try it. I have a Google Pixel 8 Pro.

If your phone is running Android 16, you can also try the following steps and see if they help.
1. Uninstall the Tapo app on your phone.
2. Copy this link and paste it into your phone's browser, click on Enter to download the Tapo Trial app.
3. Restart your phone to ensure a clean installation and rule out any potential conflicts with the previous version.
4. Install the Tapo Trial app on your phone and check if it helps.

@eXim i gave up, it never worked for Android. Theres a way around it using IFTTT. Its not hard. It just sucks you have to use a seperate programs to make this work.
Why cant the TAPO app work as reliably as IFTTT does?

@chezouff Hi. You seem to be right. Even with the mentioned settings, it only works occasionally. Let Say around 10% of the time. Thanks for the advise. Yes it sucks to use 3rd party apps for that. For example my Hue App works perfectly. I come home, all lights are on. When i go out, lights out. Failed maybe 1 or 2 times ove all the years.
