Camera keeps switching to Privacy mode
I have 'solved' this problem by selecting DAY MODE. The problem recurs if either AUTO or NIGHT MODE is selected. So, it's a software bug, over to you Tapo!

Hi,
Usually, the video mode (Day, Night, and Auto) doesn't affect the camera's privacy mode. The camera enters privacy mode in the following situations.
1. When you go to the camera's Live View or Device Settings page to manually turn on the privacy mode.
2. If the camera is included in the Tapo app > Cameras tab > Home mode or Away mode, and the privacy mode is enabled for the camera, then applying the Home/Away mode settings to your camera will turn on its privacy mode. (How to edit Home and Away Mode for Tapo Cameras on the Tapo app)
3. On the Tapo app > Smart tab, if there are shortcuts or automation entries added to turn on the camera's privacy mode, executing these entries will turn on the camera's privacy mode. (How to create Smart Action (Automation or Shortcut) on Tapo app)
If your case does not belong to the above three situations, please refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log. Then, send us the date, time, and time zone when the camera enters privacy mode, the camera log, and confirm the video mode selected on the camera.

All Privacy mode features are OFF for all the scenarios you cite. Nevertheless, if I toggle between Day mode and Night mode, the Privacy mode switches off and on respectively. So, although you say they are not supposed to be linked, I assure you they are, a bug.
I am happy with permanent Day mode in my particular circumstances, so have solved my problem.

Hi @AlanW55,
Has this device been deployed behind a window?
It seems, IR light emits in night mode is getting reflected from glass..

Yes, the camera is attached to the inside of a window using a third-party mount. I have assumed that the "ghost" image I was seeing was the camera in privacy mode, but now understand that it's the infra red reflection. Still, strange that switching off privacy mode seemed to sort, albeit temporarily. So the moral of this story is if you mount the camera on a window, night mode will not work as the infra red just reflects back off the glass (greenhouse effect). In my circumstances there is ample light from a street lamp so Day Mode works for me.

Thank you for the confirmation.
This behaviour is not specific for the type of camera device you use.
Anyway, just use that mode which mostly meets your expectations.
