D235 Issues!

Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I am writing to express my ongoing frustration with the D235 doorbell that I previously reported. A few months ago, I contacted support regarding a significant issue: the doorbell only works locally. This means:

  • I do not receive notifications when I’m outside my home.
  • Even when I’m at home, notifications only work if I’m connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the doorbell.

This was not an issue when I first purchased and installed the device. It used to notify me regardless of my location.

In response to my complaint, you offered two solutions:

  1. Changing the DNS settings
  2. Exchanging the unit for a new D235

I have tried both. Despite changing the DNS and exchanging the device, I continue to experience the exact same issue.

This clearly indicates that the problem is not with my unit specifically, but likely an inherent limitation of the D235 model.

Therefore, I am requesting a replacement with a different doorbell model (NOT the D235) that does not suffer from this limitation and can reliably send notifications regardless of my location.

I appreciate your assistance, and I hope we can resolve this satisfactorily.

Thank you.

Hi,
The reported phenomenon may not be caused by our doorbell camera, and please confirm the following information for further analysis.

  1. Is the phenomenon that the camera displays offline in the Tapo app when you control it remotely?

  2. What's the model number of your router? Do you have internet on your phone when it is connected to the same Wi-Fi as the doorbell camera?

  3. What's the LED status on the D235? What are the hardware and firmware versions of the D235?

  4. Please enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, factory reset the camera, configure it with another phone, connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, and then check if you can control it remotely. If the same phenomenon persists, please send me (@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.

Note: In the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, you can see the camera's firmware, hardware, and MAC address.

Best Regards
