Hello all,

Bought and installed 4 sets of Tapo C645D solar cameras and installed the first one last week, along with a wired one for inside. They are linked to a H500 hub through wifi (the hub being directly wired to the router).

After a short time (maybe 10-15 mins?) this camera goes in 'sleep' modus to never wake up again, unless I go into the Tapo app and open the camera's live view. At that point it wakes up, and detects if someone walks in its detection zone, only to go idle again after a few minutes. It's clearly noticeable, as I can see the infrared not being on, which in other words means I look at the camera, but the camera doesn't look at me...

Needless to say, it's completely useless in its current configuration. I've bought 4 of these and 2 more C615D are on the way, so I'm not happy about this. Btw, the wired one works flawlessly.

More information:

- Tapo C645D with solar panel (that's the one with one fixed and one moving camera)

- installed outside in the garden

- network connection symbol is blue, so optimal connection

- did the detection zone test, which already registered perfectly at sensitivity rate "6" but since it went idle, I raised it to "10" for both cameras, yet to no avail

- deleted and reinstalled the camera, once again to no effect

Any help would be much appreciated, I've been using several TP-Link/Tapo (lights, power outlets and a vacuum) and I'd rather stick to 1 brand for the sake of compatibility...

As a battery‑powered camera, it remains in sleep mode most of the time to preserve battery. It wakes up when its PIR sensor detects activity, or when someone starts a live stream in the app. You can run a detection range test on the camera, test whether the camera is working properly. How to test the detection range of Tapo battery camera

To ensure the camera's detection feature works as expected, proper placement during installation is essential. You may check here to learn more: How to Install and Configure Battery-Powered Cameras for Optimal Detection Performance

Thanks for your reply.

As mentioned above, I did all that already. Twice. The detection test works perfectly, at sensibility rating 6 as well as 10.

Then, as I wait for about half an hour to make sure the camera has gone to sleep, I'm standing in front of the camera waving with a towel and walking from the left to the right, about 6 meters away. It does not wake up.

I'm waving the towel 30 centimeters in front of the camera. It does not wake up.

Then I open the live view and - wow - all hell breaks loose because it detects me.
