Model: Tapo C520WS
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.4

This is very useful for scenarios where a user can reach an area with 1 cable and then it is difficult to add an extra hub to redistribute connection for other cameras nearby.

Usecase:
- Router connects by cable to camera A that is far away.
- Camera A, using the WiFi as access point, allows other cameras (B, C D...) in the vicinity to wireless connect.

Surely programmable as the camera itself has an access point active when configuring it for the 1st time. smiley

  @CGrande

Hi,
The Tapo camera's default SSID is used to find the camera during setup; it will disappear after the camera is configured. The Tapo camera cannot be used as an AP and broadcast Wi-Fi network for connecting.

In the described use case, adding an Access Point to connect to the internet cable and then connecting cameras to the AP's Wi-Fi is a more suitable solution.

Thank you for your feedback.

I'm aware of what you just described and this is the reason I opened this post in the forum...

Further than discussing current firmware limitations, I believe this is the right place to suggest new possible features that may be implemented. Correct?

"The Tapo camera cannot be used as an AP and broadcast Wi-Fi network for connecting"

To my limited understanding, this is a software limitation since the hardware is physically capable of delivering such feature. Or am I wrong?

  @CGrande

Hi,
You are correct that this is the right place to suggest new possible features that may be implemented.

We understand your interest in utilizing the camera as an access point (AP) to share Wi-Fi with other devices while it is connected to the router via Ethernet. However, we believe that the camera cannot function as an AP for the following reasons:
  1) Security Concerns: The Tapo camera is a security monitoring device that places a high priority on privacy. Allowing Wi-Fi access for other clients could introduce various security risks, which is unacceptable.
  2) Performance Limitations: Running as an AP while simultaneously managing its own functions and handling connections and data transmission for other devices would exceed the camera's capabilities.

We greatly appreciate your feedback and suggestions. While we currently do not have plans to implement AP functionality for the camera, we welcome any other ideas you may have for product improvements.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards
