I know there is the request thread for free rich notifications. Since it goes all the way back to 2024 with no sign of Tapo/TP-Link being willing to work on it, I figure it's dead in the water.

 

Now, while I am coming from Eufy where I don't have to pay for their cloud recording services to get rich notifications, I understand that this is a feature that Tapo is just not willing to budge on. 

 

If I hadn't just bought 5 cameras and 5 door sensors, as well as the H500 hub, in the last week, this would have me rethinking my entire decision to move to Tapo. However, since I've already spent this much money, I feel like I'm stuck with you now, even if you are holding rich notifications hostage.

 

With that in mind, if rich notifications can't be free, can there at least be available for a lower tiered paid version of TapoCare?

Hi,
Once the camera is subscribed to the Tapo Care plan, it can enjoy the rich notification feature. The Tapo Care service offers different plans, and you can choose one that suits you.

I have 4 cameras now and was thinking about adding 3 more to match what I had with Eufy. I've stopped my purchases because this feels like a bait and switch. 

 

"Yes, buy cheap cameras -- and hey here's a hub so you don't have to have the cloud! But if you want this very simple thing that everyone else has, you have to pay for the cloud -- and guess what! You have to pay PER DEVICE."

 

I'm sitting here looking at the TapoCare plans, and it's still filled with things that are unnecessary based on other things that have been hyped and sold.

 

There is at least one other entire thread here, as well as several on Reddit and on other sites, wanting the option for just rich notifications. Only rich notifications. That's it.

At the moment, we don't have any information about whether and when free or tiered payments for the Rich Notifications feature will be available. However, I'll keep logging and forward the requests to the relevant team for evaluation.

Thank you. I have returned my purchased cameras and canceled my pending cameras.

 

Once I find a suitable replacement for my Deco mesh devices, I will be closing my tp-link account.
