Model: Tapo C500   Tapo C310
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.2

Hi

I have several Tapo cameras and a C500 is mounted right next to a C310. They are connected to the same WiFi network.
The network connection to the C310 is -52(RSSI) but the C500 is only  -78 (RSSI).
How can this differ so much? Does the C500 have an antenna that is not so good? Is there any way to improve the connection to the C500? Should some part of the C500 be turned towards the router?

Best regards,

Bosse

  @BosseFilm

Hi,
Are the Tapo C310 and Tapo C500 mounted indoors? Can I have a picture of the mounted location of the Tapo C310 and C500?
Best Regards

Hi.

Yes they are both outdoors, under a roof in a carport. See photo.

Sincerely,

Bosse

Hi,

Is it possible to move the C500 right next to the C310 for comparison? From the picture, the signal strength should not be so different, but I hope to eliminate environmental factors as much as possible for a comparison test. Thanks!

Best Regards

@Solla-topee

Hi

I moved the C500 next to the 310 and the strengh increased to -59. This has been stable so for some hours.

This surprises me since there is no longer a direct line of sight to the router (Tp-link X60 mesh).
What can the reason be?

And why is it not as strong as the C310 that now is -53?

All the best,

Bosse

Hi,

From the picture, it may be because the wood around the original place of the C500 has a certain obstruction to the WiFi signal, or there are obstacles between the router and the camera, or it may be related to the placement of the router. You can also try to adjust the position and direction of the router to check if the camera's signal strength will be better.
In the new location, the signal strength of C500 and C310 is almost the same, the C310's signal strength is a little better probably because its antenna is outside and can receive a better signal.

Best Regards
