Model: Tapo C425
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.10

Hi everyone,

I recently installed 4 Tapo C425 cameras in different locations, and I'm having consistent issues with motion detection on all of them. For example, I have one installed in a room that's about 30 square meters, placed approximately 2.5 meters above the ground. Despite the camera's motion detection range being stated as 8-9 meters, it fails to detect motion from someone on the other side of the room.

I've already updated the firmware and set the sensitivity to the maximum level. However, during the motion test, it only detects me when I’m very close to the camera. Strangely enough, I do receive notifications when someone walks by while live streaming, which means the motion detection works intermittently.

I was hoping it could work in pair with the Tapo T100 motion sensor to improve detection, but unfortunately, TP-Link hasn't introduced this feature yet.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you very much for the video provided. The video shows that the Tapo C425's detection feature works normally, the camera can't detect you in the first location(near the door) because it's not woken up by your motion, this is related to your camera's installation position and angle, it's suggested to tilt up your camera's lens(the current angle between the camera and the ceiling may be around 30°, it is recommended to adjust it to around 15°), and then check if the motion near the door will wake up the camera.

You can use the Detection Range Test feature on the Tapo C425 to help you find the suitable detection range.

Hi,
You can refer to the instructions below to adjust the camera settings and position to improve the camera's performance.
Detection Is Not Working On TP-Link Camera
Detection Range Test: test the activity detection zone of the Tapo Battery Camera

From your description, it seems the camera can't be woken up by the motion that is 8-9 meters away, while the Tapo T100 motion sensor can't be used to wake up the camera. If the problem remains after adjusting the camera settings and position:
1. Send me the pictures of the camera's Device Settings > Detection page, Wake-up Sensitivity page, and the enabled detection types pages.

2. Can you share a video showing the motion that can't be detected by the camera when it's sleeping?

Best Regards

I have attached the screenshots. Could you please let me know where I should send the video demonstrating the motion that the camera fails to detect?
