Model: Tapo P100
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.5

Experiencing similar issue to that described in this thread >> https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/610604

Plug in socket and it makes a capacitive squeeking type sound and the led flashes white around 25-30 times.

Appears to be trying to start but then failing for some reason. Unable to factory reset, i.e holding down the button results in same behaviour.

Been working perfectly for the past year.

Any suggested fixes or is it just dead?

What type of appliance was connected to this smart plug? Please verify that the device is a load type supported by the smart plug. The smart plug can easily get damaged if it controls an unsupported device for a long time.

The Tapo plug is designed to support resistive loads such as heaters, kettles, and electric irons. However, it doesn’t support high-power inductive loads driven by motors, like air conditioners, refrigerators, or washing machines. These devices often draw a high inrush current at startup, which can exceed the plug’s rated current and potentially cause damage.

What types of loads can the Tapo plug support?

If the smart plug malfunctions during proper use, such as the phenomenon you mentioned here, you may contact the retailer or local TP-Link support to proceed with the warranty.

@Wayne-TP it has been connected to a COB LED lighting strip. I have emailed a video of the behaviour to support.forum@tp-link.com with the subject having the same title as this thread.
