Deco M9 Plus Gets Extremely Hot
I set up Deco M9 Plus router. It is a good router for what it is. One annoying thing is, these units get extremely hot. I know. I also read about their FAQs about these issues and it mentions about 40C but my unit is unbearably hot. If I hold it several seconds I may burn my fingers. Is there any issue with that model? Also, how do I get the hardware version for this router?

Yeah. It runs too hot. The surface beneath the router gets very hot too. I don't know if it is normal. It looks almost a fire hazard to me. I got the router on Thursday and plan to return it. It's a real shame that a router with very good capabilities is plagued with heat issues.

I have three M9 Plus and three M5 Deco and they all got extremely hot. I believe one of the reasons is the heat dissipating holes are at the bottom.
This design decision is close to stupidity and ignorance if not at.
So I have flipped around the Deco so the heat can dissipate quicker, so the results appear to be better with measurement by my hands.

Hi, Like any other electronic devices, the TP-Link devices radiate heat during operation. Sometimes they would get warm or maybe a little hot after running for a while depending on the environment.
Please refer to this link to relocate Deco:

While if the unit is unbearably hot, please also try to test the temperature of Deco and feel free to contact technical support.

@Mightko agreed. I tried the M5s and the P9s and both would get very warm and started acting flakey after a week of use. I returned both systems because of this.

I have two Deco M9 Plus. They get warm but not excessively. One sits flat in the TV cabinet with a glass shelve a couple inches above it, the other is hung on the wall with a bracket from Amazon.
[Edit] I have a second image but am blocked from uploading it. The temperatures of both devices are between 93 and 95 at the hottest spots.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
Due to the slightly flat design, and with the surface closer to the device's cooling module, Deco M9 Plus/Deco M5 may feel a little warmer than the devices having cylinder design. However, it's confirmed strictly that Deco could work continuously without any problems/safety hazards at a room temperature of 40 °C/104°F due to the test results in TP-Link's lab.
