Model: Deco X50-PoE
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20231122 Rel. 58711

I have a TL-R605 v2 Internet Gateway, one LAN port of which is connected to a TP-Link Tl-Sg1016pe switch.

There are also 3 TP-Link Deco X50-PoEs connected to this switch via Ethernet (PoE), which are operated in access point mode.

So I currently have

Internet Gateway --> Switch --> 3x Deco

I'd expect this setup to work as per the manuals and my online research.

Unfortunately, the Decos always connect to each other via WiFi/Mesh instead of Ethernet backhaul (via the switch).

On the switch I tried disabling Loop detection, this resulted in no change at at.

As a side note: I also tried having the main deco connected to the R605 and the switch, but the other Decos still refuse to use the Ethernet.

Internet Gateway --> Main Deco --> Switch --> 2x Deco

What am I doing wrong?

Can I force the decos to use the Ethernet?

The alternative method you mentioned you tried is the presribed method for ethernet backhaul as highlighted in the FAQ.  However, since you said that did not work what i would like you to try is connecting one of the satellite nodes directly to the main unit and then checking if Etherent is detected.  Once you have done that, using a short ethernet cable, connect the switch to the main Deco and then using another short cable connect the same sateliite unit to the siwtch.  If this test works then there would likely be an issue with the house ethernet cable.

  @Carl Sorry for taking so long but I had to wait for a good moment to try this.

Indeed, wiring two decos together via an ethernet cable worked right, that was an excellent idea to test.

I'll have to check my house's network cabling and see where the weak spot might be. Since everything was done from scratch and is brand new I just assumed it must be working ok but as they say, trust is good, control is better. :)
