Model: Deco BE75
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: V1.0.6

I recently switched from Asus ZenWiFi XT9 to the Deco BE75 in June, and I am seeing lower wired speeds on the Main Deco than the Satellite, which is wired Ethernet backhaul.

All cables are new CAT6a, all devices are hardwired, except for Reolink security cameras and a Ring Alarm system.

I have made the following tests below for the advisors at TP-Link.

I have Spectrum 1G speed.  I tested with my MacBook Air hooked to the modem, and I am getting 932/37.6.  The wired speed on my Mac Studio (Deco Satellite) that supports 10G is 1129/38.1.

I disconnected all CAT 6a cables going from the main Deco to the Apple 4K box, LG OLED TV, and Onkyo A/V receiver, and tested each LAN port on the main Deco that supports 2.5G.

The modem cable is hooked to the 10G port on the main Deco, then from the MacBook Air on the LAN port 1 is 436/37.3. On port 2, it is 493/37.5, and on port 3, it is 442/37.6.  With the MacBook Air hooked to the 10G port on the main Deco, I got 507/38.0.

On WiFi 5G, my iPhone is getting over 1120/37.8 Mbps, my MacBook Air is getting 670/37.9, and sometimes higher.

My case has been elevated since June, and I have sent all test results to them, but no one can help me.  Now they want to do a TeamViewer request to have access to my MacBook Air, and I don’t like that, and I don’t know what that will accomplish.

On my 2024 LG OLED TV, the CAT6a cable is for updates, as well as the Onkyo A/V receiver.  My streaming is from my Apple 4K box hooked to the main Deco LAN port 1, then HDMI 2.1 to the Onkyo A/V receiver.  The LG has HDMI 2.1 eARC to the Onkyo, and the readings that I get on my TV using Ookla are 362/38.2 and lower.

I have tested two Apple 4K boxes, a Vizio TV in the Den that gets 943/37.5 on an Apple 4K box hooked to the Deco Satellite.  I moved the Vizio TV to the main Deco, and the readings are the same, all lower speeds on Ethernet.  Per their request, I have changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8, and QoS is disabled.  My firmware is up-to-date.

I hope that someone can help me with this problem.

Thanks,

Daisymay

I would start here

https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/kb/detail/412864

Make sure to look for the "Recommended Troubleshooting" section

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1

  @Daisymay

Thank you for your reply. I had already tried these suggestions.

I have new information on my tests today, and hopefully, someone will see if it is a settings issue or a configuration problem.

I have a Spectrum modem with 1 Gig speed, and using a CAT 6 cable from my MacBook to the modem, I am getting 930/36.7.  My WiFi on 5 GHz was 644/37.3, and my iPhone on the same network was 1124/37.6.

I then took the CAT 6a cable from the modem to the 10 GHz port on the main deco, and a CAT 6 cable from my MacBook to the LAN port 1 on the main deco, and I got 461/36.4.

I then took my MacBook to the deco satellite in the Den.

I have a CAT 6 cable that I installed years ago that is 75 feet long and in PVC to protect the cable.  I have that cable hooked to the 10 GHz on the satellite port, and I took a CAT 6 cable from my MacBook to the LAN port 1 of the satellite unit, and I got 943/37.6, on port 2, I got 759/38.0, and on port 3, I got 806/37.9.  I then took the cable and hooked it to the 10 GHz port and got 930/37.5, basically the same as the modem reading in the living room.

For the wired backhaul, the CAT 6a from the modem is hooked to the 10 GHz of the main deco, and the 75-foot CAT 6 cable is hooked to LAN port 3 on the main deco.

Why is the speed holding even on the satellite deco, and I see a drop on all ports of the main deco?  This is odd.  I have my case escalated to TP-Link, and nothing has been resolved.

Why is the satellite outperforming the main deco, especially considering the long cable run?

I have read that it could be port management issues, bandwidth, or network configuration, but in the deco app, I can’t see any areas to try these recommendations.  I have tested the QoS and set a higher Mbps speed for a client, but the results were slower speeds, so that has been disabled.

Thanks again for any ideas that you have.

Just making sure you tried the steps here

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/3670/

If you did next i would try to turn off ECO mode - If your unit supports it you will find it under More in the deco app

  @Daisymay

Hi, if possible, it is also suggested to test the 1.1.0 firmware version here:

Deco BE75 1.1.0 Added WireGuard VPN, Manual Channel Selection and More

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @Daisymay This can be caused by QoS being turned on.  Please turn it off and retest if true.

  @Daisymay

Thank you all for giving me the suggestions to try.  This has been going on for 3 months and has been escalated to their engineering department.  Unfortunately, all correspondence is via email, and I am forwarding many speed test results using several devices.

I have tried all of the suggestions and even asked them about the Beta Version 1.1.0 to be released, but was told that it would not help.

I decided that, since this has been going on for so long and the high price of this system, I would take it back to the store where I purchased it.  I am sorry to say that I am done with TP-Link devices.

I have used Asus products since 2018, and like the GUI rather than just a mobile app, so I installed a new Asus ZenWiFi TX9.  Even though it is not WiFi 7 or has a 10G port, I am pleased with this system.

I must say that their mobile app is far superior to the Deco BE75 management and settings options.

I installed it yesterday, and my speed tests with the main unit and the node in the Den are over 950 Mbps, so it was something in the Deco system that was reducing the speed on the main unit, but allowing me to get 950 Mbps in the Den.

I kept asking them if it was a settings or configuration problem, and they said “No,” so I decided to go back to my Asus Mesh System.

Thanks,

Daisymay
