Dead router? router (AX55) not passing internet, music streaming is down via usb port
Hello, was listening to a playlist yesterday (Saturday) and it had just started a new song on a playlist I was listening to when it stopped streaming, I did discover I can't access it from either computer, neither my laptop via WiFi, nor the desktop via ethernet.
The router has a USB NVME housing connected to stream playlists via Samba to either computer and I can access each other as needed. I did recently upgraded the WiFi card in the laptop to WiFi 6. For a time, I was able to access the router via browser using the 192.168.0.1, my gateway (Verizon) uses the 192.168.1.1 and can access that fine, but eventually, the router stopped allowing me top access the settings, and at one point, I was able to access the testing connection and that failed. Then it became unavailable at all.
The internet LED is totally dark, not even red or orange and rebooting it does briefly come on orange, then goes totally out but everything else comes on green.
I think I did a firmware upgrade to this model, I know I did at least once on the old router.
This is my third TP router. The first one was the Archer 80, bought a couple of years ago to replace a Netgear router that would not see the mac address of my old desktop, no matter how I tried. it was then 5 years old and likely needed updated anyway. The Archer 80 got disconnected during a redo of the office and rearrangement of the desk (and a new one while at it) and when I put it back into service, it failed, and 2 hours with TP Link revealed it to be dead and out of warranty, so bought the AX55 Pro, it was bought locally, and was DOA out of the box. Was able to RMA that for an exact replacement last spring and now this.
At the moment, have the gateway connected directly to the desktop with the same cable from gateway to it and I have internet (hence am able to type this). I thought it was Verizon being down, but apparently it was fine the whole time, just the router was not passing along the internet. Oh, the gateway only has a flashing white LED at the jack the cable is plugged into. Yesterday, had both the amber and white flashing when plugged into the router.
My phone was not able to connect to it either. I even rebooted the router several times to no avail, even the gateway as well in an attempt to suss out if internet is down, or something at home died/failed.
So far, gateway and computer are fine, getting internet fine. Router as of late yesterday before disconnecting, no internet LED. The music stopping thing yesterday was not the first time this has happened, but was able to get it going again. Occasionally, a reboot of the desktop reestablishes the connection (at one point, that was how I got back online, albeit briefly)
If a new firmware is needed, can it be done via USB? or is it only done via the web. is this new router dead? I have a yellow ethernet cable from computer to router, but likely not the issue as the internet light is totally out. Windows (11 Pro) and browser say no internet connection with the gateway plugged in the WAN connector on the router but internet if gateway is connected directly to desktop.
Thanks.
