TBE550E Black Screen of Death, Win 11 home.
TBE550E Black Screen of Death, Win 11 home.
H/W Version is actually V1.6.
I booted the PC and it was getting my email into MailWasher Pro. Normally this is quite fast. So I opened the program and it was slowly loading emails? Unusual. Normally soon after booting it would tell me how many emails I had? It was in process of getting the emails and my screen went BLACK!
So I rebooted... and in doing so, I see this at the bottom of the screen.

I was collecting data and then I could reboot. Working fine now?
So I went looking for the file:

Found a few copies, but ALL old files?
Not SURE what happened, but the PC is working fine now?
Event Viewer has this entry:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. Possibly related driver: mtkwecx.sys. with a 1019 code as well. A memory Dump it seems was created too.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x000000000000001f, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff8067c25977f). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: e54e6d6f-fc83-4ae7-b45a-1787fb7e368e.
Part of that DMP file:

Very odd?
Well, for now, it is working fine.

Hi @IrvSp ,
The bugcheck code 0x000000d1 (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) typically indicates a driver compatibility or stability issue. Since the Event Viewer specifically flagged mtkwecx.sys, the TP-Link adapter driver is a likely contributor. Here's what we recommend:
1. Remove the current driver and reinstall the latest version
2. Check for Windows 11 compatibility:
• If you're on Windows 11 version 21H2 or 22H2, there are known compatibility considerations for the Archer TBE550E. Please refer to https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/4367/ for details on required system patches or updates.
3. Check for conflicting drivers:
• If Windows automatically installed a driver for the adapter at any point, it may conflict with the TP-Link driver. Please refer to https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/861/ for guidance on identifying and removing incompatible drivers.
Even though the system is stable right now, updating to the latest driver is strongly recommended to prevent the issue from happening again.

Thanks for the reply,
I know all of this bascially, knew it was the card driver, and I'm on Win11 25H2 and have had that card for over a year or so.
I was thinking of getting a new d/l, but when I checked I had the last. As I had already booted and had no problem I decided to wait on it. Running fine so far has not happened again?
Windows and/or Windows Update did NOT install a version of that driver either, checked that on reboot. Only one was an HP driver.
I'm writing it off as an 'oddity', but posted here to see if others have seen this, guess not?

Well, it came back today, 3 boot errors until it finally booted.
I did get another s/w version and installed it and it IS the same as I have.
This time it created a set of LOG files:

Also looked at the DMP file:

.
I did send this to some contacts I have as well as support.usa@tp-link.com
Something going on, but it has happened more than once?

Boy, is this ANNOYING!!!
I got it again today.
2nd reboot worked OK. Again, during boot, the antennae base shows it connected to MLO band (LED's breathing).
Did not here from Support yet, AI got in the way and I had to reply back and it would then go to Support?
Wondering if I have a failing card or a Windows/Driver problem? Suspect card but it appears to be me only, vs. a driver?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I did have some email addresses as well as support, so I wrote them.
I did get an AI answer that got it all wrong. Although my screen captures were clearly BLACK SCREEN, AI came back with BSOD, BLUE screen... replied back and have been in contact with Support. However, first line has now passed it up to a higher level.
I did 'get' around the problem. Since my PC has an Intel M.2 BE200 adapter, I disabled the TBE550E and enabled the Intel one. No problem booting now...
I suspect the card has a problem, even deleting the old driver and installing a new driver of the same version I had still had booting problems.

Well, I do NOT have anything 'positive' to supply.
After the useless AI email, I got a few others...
First person wasn't much help. Told me to do what I already said I did. Make sure I had the latest drivers, etc. Sent similar info on Black Screen of Death. I countered that I did have the Intel working.
Well, that was passed onto another agent, I assume a higher level. Suggested similar or the same suggestions. I was asked for a DUMP file which I sent to the other agent, but this one said it was of no help (it showed what I posted above). I must have another one somewhere. I've gone back with a list of .DMP files on my PC, NONE have the same timestamp or anything near it in day and time.
This time I Zippped up the SRT folder that the Black screen said where the DUMP was and sent that... that was when I was told it wasn't a good one?
Also, suggested that they needed a list of drivers, and if I can handle Powershell, I could use that, but did not tell what command to use. Assume DriverQuesry and sent that output back. NO, there is NO driver for the TBE550E listed now as I've DISABLED it.
Offered to do a remote connect... and I had to explain all this happened (again) before Windows OPENS... it is the pre-loading of Windows when it happens...
I explained I am quitte technical with years of experience... and my thoughts are the card has a problem. Since repeated attempts to re-boot it usually works the 2nd or 3rd time, until the next day when it starts over again. Either a timing issue in the card driver or some MS Update... since the card worked fine for at least a year, either the card has an initialization problem or the driver does. No one else reporting this, leans to a card problem.
With REMOTE DEBUG they might replace the card, but I did NOT buy it. Support Manager sent it to me, which I explained with proof. Have not heard back.
Right now, the Intel adapter works fine for me, but I'd prefer the card. I use an MLO SSID as it gives me the best speed I can get with 1GB ISP service. Got used to the LED 'breathing' when connected to MLO, and sort of like it.
I'm awaiting a Support reply now.
Did I get any 'real' help? I don't think so, just sugestions, all of which I did try. Some suggestions didn't make sense either, like more than one card driver.
I was within an inch of writing to my support contact who sent me the card. I'll be glad to share more and emails with you if you either DM me or emial me (I assume you can get mu email address?). If you have access to the Support tickets, this is the number, TKID260852149, so you can see it all there.

For anyone wanting an update.
It appears my TBE550E was the problem. Replacement arrived, deleted the card and driver. Installed the new card and used the enclosed driver (old one). System booted OK (well, I did have a problem, configuration wise, but it was resolved).. "Original" driver had an 'issue' that MLO did not use the 6Ghz band, but installed the last posted driver and that was resolved.
All is 'well'.
