Firmware Upgrade Question
Firmware Upgrade Question
I have a C5400 router (version 2). I just upgraded the firmware to the latest one available on the TP-Link website. It appears that the upgrade was successful but I have a question.
When I log into the router and go "Advanced" -> "System Tools" -> "Upgrade" screen it is still telling me that an update is available. The thing is the indicated available update is the same as the installed version. See attached image.
Did the update complete successfully or should I do it again. If it matters I downloaded the firmware file from the TP-Link website and updated manually.
Thanks . .

Thank you for the quick reply. I did power off the router and then back on. As far as resetting to factory and updating again, I'm a bit reluctant to do that since the router appears stable and working well - with the exception of the above mentioned "problem".

Have you looked at the Support Page for Firmware? Do you actually have the one listed there?
I did, https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c5400/#Firmware and something is clearly wrong?
First you present version listed, " Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20190411 rel.52981(5553) ", which appears to be built on 4/11/2019. However, that doesn't match ANYTHING on the above link? However, https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201911/20191107/Archer%20C5400(US)_V2_190411.zip is listed on the page as released on 11/17/2019, but the file has the last part of the name as '190411' which would be 4/11/2019?
So, either there is a mess up on the d/l page OR it might have been updated for some reason and the date not changed?
If you look at the above d/l page link, there are 3 prior releases, and the file date does match release date.
Something odd it seems to me?
I took the file down and opened the ZIP. The ZIP itself has a 10/27/2019 date on it for the folder, but inside is the 4/11/2019 for the firmware.
So the question now is how long have you had the router or did you not notice the update before?
One thing to try, contacting support and ask about this, OR, if you are 'brave', get the file and try installing it. If it is NEW it will install, and possibly will if it is the same as you have now.
Confusing though for sure, especially if this just popped up and you've had the router for over 2 years? If you bought it past 4/11/2019 it should have probably had the same f/w you are using now and never been updated?

It is a US router. Bought about in March 2018. I have used the US based firmwares since the beginning. Hopefully someone from TP-Link will respond soon. Thanks . .

I had alo noticed the discrepancy in the file dates. I agree that it does appear a bit strange. Hopefully a TP-Link representative will answer . . Thank you.

Yup - it says "US". I downloaded the firmware directly from the TP-Link website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c5400/#Firmware
