Model: Archer AX11000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 Build 20220221 rel.50072(5553)

I have recently upgraded my v1.6 hardware revision AX11000 to:

Firmware Version: 1.3.0 Build 20220221 rel.50072(5553) Hardware Version: Archer AX11000 v1.0

As you can see, the "Hardware Vesion" Shows v1.0 and not v1.6.

Can tp-link / archer please fix this. Its really annoying to have such a gross oversight in the GUI. The sticker on the product itself and on the product box says v1.6, but my GUI shows 1.0.

also can the change log between versions say substantive things? All I got for this new version which cannot be downgraded is:

What's new

Improved the stability of the system.

Note: You will be unable to downgrade to the previous firmware version after updating this firmware.

Hey @bhowes @MMcD4210 @Mystiky,

Thank you for letting us know about the firmware versions that did not match with the AX11000 V1.6 vs the AX1100 V1.0

As you have already found out, the firmware for the V1 will work as intended with the AX11000 V1.6 – The 1.6 model is only sold in the United States, so the updated firmware was only actually uploaded for the global site, which is the more common and universally available firmware for the v1. The team appreciates you pointing this miscommunication out, and I have already requested that the firmware files for the V1.6 be updated to match the most up-to-date firmware for the 1.0. For now, please feel free to use the older hardware's firmware for the newer hardware. I will also pass along feedback that you would like the GUI to indicate the correct hardware version of the product, if possible.

Thanks again for letting us know about something like this, as it can be very difficult to catch small things that need to be changed, or are overlooked by development teams.

Costco has a sale right now, and I was thinking about upgrading from my  C5400X.  Has this issue been resolved, bc I would want to update the firmware right out of the box?

  @MMcD4210 i bought this one at costco - it works well it just displays 1.0 on the GUI rather than 1.6. It is as far as I can tell running 1.6 firmware. Both the manual downloads for the 1.0 and 1.6 seem have rather poorly named files and general confusion

for 1.6 firmware
clicking on
Archer AX11000(US)_V1.6_210719
filename is
Archer AX11000(US)_V1_210719.zip

also the 1.6 manual download links are out of date but the GUI based updater works.

for 1.0  firmware in the support section
Archer AX11000(US)_V1_220221 link gives filename
Archer AX11000(US)_V1_220221.zip

the v1.0 links on the support pages are more up to date but looking at the file names given it seems 1.0 and 1.6 could possibly be the same?

tp-link should clarify this and make the links on the website up to date with the file the GUI downloads and make it clear if 1.0 and 1.6 are different, if they are, reflect that in the GUI, and if not, just make that clear.

but other than this cosmetic issue, this has been a decent ax11000 wifi - i got this wifi as it was priced nicely at costco and is holding me off until wifi 6e matures and the ax16000 platforms are out.

  @bhowes Nice!!  Thank you for the info.

I've been on the fence with this one for a while and it's $80 off Costco's normal price, so I thought I'd give it a go.  I'm a longtime user of TP-Link products and like the bang for the buck they provide, however, the C5400X hasn't had the best throughput for the speeds my internet package is supposed to provide.  It performs adequately and can handle all the household traffic of devices, but I was hoping for better performance from a top of the line product.

I've been thinking about changing ecosystems altogether and switching over to the Netgear Nighthawk AXE11000, along with their extender and modem, but I'm really not wanting to spend $1200 to do all of that.  I think I'll give the Archer AX11000 a chance, and like you, wait for the 6E stuff to come down.  Thanks again!

  @MMcD4210

I would avoid Netgear, they are trying to charge for support after 90 days, and they parental controls and antivirus/intrusion detection/security (Armor), etc, are now premium features that run out after a year. I've also had trouble with firmware upgrades (RBK753/RBR750/RBS750) as well - Netgear support is totally useless.

Netgear also charges extreme amounts for their mesh network [the prices on the Orbi AXE10000 Quadband WiFi 6E RBKE953S-100NAS and Orbi RBK843S AX5700 WiFi 6 Mesh System RBK843S-100NAS are $1300 and $850 respectively  - even at Costco! ].

Netgear Orbis also do not work correctly in AP mode.

My recent Netgear support experiences while helping a friend with his personal and at-work Orbi systems lead me to return the Orbi system to Costco and replace it with an Asus XT8 mesh. The Asus XT8 works ok if the mesh is backhauled with a physical cable (this also opens up a second WiFi 6 band).

Not thrilled with any of the WiFi 6 stuff in general and the "good stuff" like Ubiquiti / AmpliFi Alien stuff is relatively expensive, not updated for WiFi 6E and often out of stock and the professional stuff is just brutally expensive. For my own situation, where I am waiting for a reasonably priced WiFi 6E situation the AX11000 has been doing ok here, its certainly way better than the Frontier WiFi and Im using the Firewall GOLD firewall and this Archer TP-Link AX11000 in AP mode and things are fast.

GREAT TO KNOW!! We've got a lower end Orbi at my office and it's a pain in the ass. All of the major branded mesh systems are more expensive than I'm willing to invest right now. I've already got a TP-Link range extender that's OneMesh compatible, so I'm curious how well that and the AX11000 will play together. Again, great info!! Thank you so much for taking the time reply to my posts.

  @bhowes @Riley_S

Okay, now that we figured out that this firmware works with both 1.0 AND 1.6 hardware, can someone please post their findings AFTER upgrading?   Did something improve, or degrade?

The problem is that when TP-Link describes this as "stability improvements", without listing anything exactly what, it's hard to digest and make a decision.

Any and all input is appreciated!

So...all of us that bought via Costco, should we update the firmware to Archer AX11000(US)_V1.6_210719 manually or stay with Archer AX11000(US)_V1_220221

  @TexRanger,

I would recommend staying with the most up-to-date build number (220221), or updating to it, as this will have the most recent security and stability improvements for your product. I have already passed the information along to the team that the most recent build is not posted on the site for the 1.6 hardware version.
