Model: Touch P5
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20161221 Rel. 53675

I don't know why I can't find a definitive answer to this simple question on the net so I thought I would start asking here.

My main router login address is 192.168.0.1

I am using an old wifi router in repeater mode (not bridged or meshed or anything) and the login address is currently 192.168.0.100

---------------------------------------------------------------

All I want to know is if the repeater IP address should be inside the IP address pool of the main router or out.

Should I set my repeater address be something like 192.168.0.2  or what?   192.168.?.?

My current ping and speed max out just fine.  Is there a rule for a simple home network with an old repeater?

Thank you for your answer in advance.

  @TMC123,

If i am not mistaken, the repeater should behave as any other client when you connect to the router with an ethernet connection. The sticky part comes when you start messing with bridge modes; but in simple repeater mode, I believe the router would operate inside the main router's IP address pool.

  @Riley_S

Just out of curiosity do you happen to know why some instructions say to set up a repeater IP outside of the pool?

Like this-

Router  192.168.0.1

Repeater  192.168.0.2  or  192.168.1.1  or 192.168.1.0  etc.

To me it seems this should be standardized for all home networks with any kind of repeater, extender, etc,. as to how to set it up.  Does it reduce hops or lag or something?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw, I'm using a TP-Link AC4000 Router that keeps re-running the LAN/WAN start-up procedure for some reason.  I can find no solution for this "Start to run" problem anywhere.

It's a problem for my VR headset where fast consistant speeds and un-interruptions are a must.  The search goes on.  Have a look if you like.  If you can figure it out you're golden.
