Model: RE450
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi, my room is at the back of my house.

When connecting to the range extender RE450, i realise the internet speeds are alot slower than using my normal router wifi.

Understand that Range extenders have a half-duplex backhaul and can only communicate in 1 direction at a time the speed can be up to 50% less than what you get on normal router.

However, these are my wifi speeds:

- connected to home router, nearest to main router: 127 mpbs

- connected to home router, far from main router: 12 mpbs

- connected to range extender RE450, far from main router: 8 mpbs

In this case, the wifi from range extender was nowhere near the half of my main router speed.

Is there something that I should know about the range extender not being able to reach dead zones?

The range extender has been placed halfway between the router and my dead area.

  @Gggeh,

If this is the case, I cannot remember if the RE450 allows you to change the broadcast power as routers do, then it is likely something in your environment that is causing the falloff. It could be an appliance, interference, or a thicker wall.

It may simply be a case that the router you have is providing a strong enough 2.4 GHz signal to match the speeds that the weaker and half-speed RE can reach.

Try bringing the Range Extender into the same room or closer to the router, and see if you can get the speeds to jump up a bit. This would mean that everything is properly configured. REs are infamous for misconfiguring themselves based on the signal they receive so you would want to check that everything is connected properly.

Also, depending on your setup, make sure that your RE is looking at and extending the 2.4Ghz signal of your router. The longer range of 2.4 will likely help your RE get a better initial signal. In your RE interface, what is the signal strength of the received signal?
