My In-Laws have a TP-Link Archer A6 v2.8 in their house that has worked great for several years. It receives internet through the typical modem-via-an-ethernet-cable setup. They now want to add Wi-Fi to a nearby building as one continuous, seamless network and have asked me to help with this.

 

Step 1 was to install underground-rated Cat 6 between the buildings. Step 2, which I’m now on, is figuring out if I could / should continue to use the Archer A6 v2.8 as the Wi-Fi enabled router in the house and purchase a second TP-Link device to connect to the A6 via wired backhaul. If the answer is “yes”, could someone recommend a specific TP-Link device best-suited to accomplish this? Keep in mind that I would like the second device to be a Wi-Fi-enabled router vs an access point - so that they have the option of ethernet in the second building.

 

One potential hurdle is that my TP-Link  Archer A6 v2.8 appears to NOT have Easymesh support, based on this quote:  "Easymesh compatible devices for the US region are here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/easymesh/product-list/. A6 v2 is nowhere to be seen."

But some are saying you can pair the A6 v2 with a device that DOES support Easymesh and configure the Easymesh from that device.

The Archer 6 v2 does have OneMesh support (the earlier TP-Link mesh tool), which I would be happy to use instead of Easymesh if that would work with whatever new TP-Link device is recommended. Ultimately, I don't care if I use EasyMesh, OneMesh or whatever; I just want a seamless Wi-Fi network using two devices connected via wired backhaul that is visible as a single SSID and managed from one interface. Is there a TP-Link device I can connect to my Archer A6 v2 that would accomplish this?

Onemesh must be used with an extender. From what I can find, Onemesh does not support backhaul via Ethernet. 
 

Your best option is to get a mesh system if you need seamless internet. I looked at mesh systems and determined that a router and an extender without mesh fits my needs as I did not need to move between them while using a device. Most of my devices are static.
