Hardware Version: V9
Firmware Version: 3.16.9 Build 150401 Rel.58806n

I have a Netgear CM1000 cable modem attached to a Archer C7 (main Router). Cat5e wire from Archer C7 to a LAN port in a Tp-link TL-WR841N in another room as an access point.

The wireless download speed is only about 4 to 5 Mbps. That seems low any way to increase it?

P.S. - Strangely the Archer C7 reports in the DHCP the Tp-Link (AP) as name - TM-300ipda5189 with the proper 192.168.0.2 IP address, but it is listing a different Mac Address than the address on the back of the Router. (DISREGARD)

Hi @JayGNoCal

Welcome to the community.

Have you checked whether the 2.4 GHz spectrum is congested in your area? If so, this can drastically impact 2.4 GHz throughput. Changing the Wi-Fi Channel to a less congested one via the router's web management interface can, in some cases, significantly improve your Wi-Fi performance.

Have you tried disconnecting the Ethernet cable from the TL-WR841N's LAN port and connecting it to a wired device (e.g., laptop) to test speeds?

Did you assign the TL-WR841N a static IP of 192.168.0.2 during setup?

I do not know how to check Congestion. I am in a subdivion that has 1/2 acre parcels.

My main router had channel 1 selected and the TPlink Access Point has channel 11 selected.

I will run that test,

Yes.

Thanks  @Ryan

  @JayGNoCal

What kind of speeds do you get if you connect a pc to the ethernet port of the AP and what ethernet speeds on the router.

Do you have any devices on the AP that do heavy traffic such as cloud backups?

Also try different wifi channels or use auto.
