Hello Community!  I recently purchased the Archer BE550 for a better wifi solution that what I have with my current Wifi provider (Frontier - only option available).  I have an existing modem that also serves as a router, Arris NVG443B.  In reading installation documents, sounds like I have to keep the original modem/router and connect Archer to it.  I could really use the help of this group with the following

  • Given that I'm keeping the original modem/router, is there even value in setting up the Archer?
  • Is there anything I have to do to maximize the value of this setup?  I read various articles about needing to disable the original router (and keeping it as a modem), setting up a bridge on the old router, or setting up archer as an access point.  Can someone clarify what to do to maxime the value of this?

Thanks very much in advance!

  @Aga1932 ,

Welcome to our community.

First, if you plan to connect the router to a modem, make sure the modem has higher specifications than the BE550. The performance of the BE550 is limited by the modem.

If the modem can carry your ISP plan, then you need to consider whether the BE550 is suitable to work in router mode or access point mode.

Generally speaking, the functions of router mode are more comprehensive than access point mode.

If your modem is not working in bridge mode, double NAT may occur. You can refer to :

How to Avoid Double NAT When DSL Modem Router and Wireless Router are Used Together.
Then you can consider choosing access point mode for the BE550.
