Smart Switches Disconnecting
I've had TP-Link smart switches and plugs for the last 5 years and never had an issue. I recently updated the firmware on my router (Asus GT-AX11000) and updated my iPhone's IOS to 15 and nothing but problems. Switches and plugs w/ Hardware V1 connect and disconnect constantly throughout the day. I've done factory reset on all switches and even on my router and still same issue. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hello everyone,
For anyone experience similar kasa unstable / Local only issue with Asus router, please help provide information and email to <support.forum@tp-link.com> with title [forum ID520146 ] + Model + Description, and we will have a specialist to follow up your case:
- Model of router
Router Firmware:
Is it a Mesh system e.g. router + extenders?
- Does the issue start since any router firmware update
- Model & hardware version of kasa device .e.g HS105 US V2 MAC XXX
- Mac address of the problematic kasa devices (please share MAC in email or sent by private message)
- Is there any Red/ Green/Flashing Green WiFi led on plug when issue happens?
- How often does kasa become local only or not respond
- How did you make kasa work again at that moment, like reboot kasa/ reboot router/ factory reset kasa and set up kasa on the app?
- For Asus , try to check Router Log when issue occurs and the router log if possible
Thank you

Hello@rahrndz ,
Thank you for your valuable feedback, Asus GT-AX11000 seems to be a Tri- band wifi 6 router, you could try some suggestions here and see if it helps with the smart switch stability:
- Turn off Band Steering (also called ‘Smart Connect’ or ‘Whole-Home Wi-Fi ‘) on a dual/tri-band router
- Turn off Wi-Fi Optimizing (or Channel optimization) on router
- Try to turn off Mesh feature if you have a Mesh system/mesh compatible router, and create a different SSID for 5Ghz WiFi (tapo camera use 2.4Ghz)
If the issue started since router firmware update, you may also contact Asus support to do a firmware downgrade. As the issue is quite unusual. we would like to have a specialist look into this further via email. Please check your mailbox later, and feel free to let us know how it goes. Thank you!

@Hippo It's an Asus router issue with their latest firmware upgrade. I switched to Orbi Pro 6 and issue resolved.

@Solla-topee thank you for your suggestions. I ended up switching my router to the Orbi Pro 6 and all swtiches/plugs are back working. Looks like the issue was with Asus latest firmware update.

what's the point of smart home if we can't have a smart router?
the whole point of mesh Wi-Fi is seamless use, including 5g to 2.4g.
ONLY my Kasa smart home devices are having issues. Everything else I have works fine.
EVERY Kasa device I have is not working. It disconnects literally every 2 minutes

Hi @MattyBoy I understand your point, dual-band or Mesh system are very common now. You may troubleshoot as above temporarily to help isolate the issue. If multiple kasa devices disconnect very often like you said every 2mins, most likely that is related to wireless or advanced settings, we need to find underlying causes then try to fix it.
May I know the model of Mesh router, did you recently update the firmware on router, did kasa device work fine with the router before?

I am experiencing this same issue with 32 TPlink switches disconnecting from my Asus router. Was the the root cause ever identified?

I've had the same problem since September 2021 with a twist. In addition to losing connectivity to my HS105 plugs and my HS200 switch, I started experiencing intermittent web outages that would last 3-4 minutes. e.g. Gmail would say "Ooops" and try to reconnect for 3-4 minutes, and during that time I couldn't access other sites, and then everything would magically start working again only to repeat again in 30-60 minutes.
I wasn't sure what the problem was at first but it started happening on my D-Link DIR880L in September. That router didn't have any useful system admin features so troubleshooting was impossible. So I bought an ASUS RT-AX58U router in October to see if it was the router that was the problem, but the ASUS had the same connectivity issue with the TP-Link devices and I still have the annoying web outages.
After looking at the router logs I saw that all of my HS105 plugs and my HS200 switch were constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to the router every few seconds. All of that activity seemed to be causing the outages I was having because once I isolated the problem and unplugged the plugs and blocked the switch, the outages have stopped. I blocked the switch using Wireless > Wireless MAC Filter on the 2.4GHz band which rendered it unusable in the Kasa app and also stopped it from trying to reconnect to the router every 5 seconds or so. I should note that the wifi signal to the switch was excellent -28db so that isn't the issue.
Also Note, I have several HS103 plugs and an outdoor plug (Model KP400) which don't have the same issue and they are working fine. Before disconnecting the conflicting TP-Link devices I tried resetting them and upgrading their firmware to no avail. I also tried the Legacy setting on the Router 2.4GHz band, I tried using channel 1, 6 and 11 but none of that worked.
Prior to September all the plugs and the switch worked fine so something out there in the ether changed...

I have had HS200 delayed respond/not responding for a few months with my RT-AX3000. With the latest two firmware:
3.0.0.4.386.45898 (Oct 07, latest as of writing)
3.0.0.4.386.45674 (Sep 22)]
Router log shows constant Auth/DeAuth (every 30-60s) from all plugs.
From my reading (AX88 & AX11000), it seems to be Aug/Sep firmware update when Asus patched a list of vulnerabilities including a number of WPA ones. Once I rollback to the version prior, all my HS200 function normally. I have an ongoing case, hope Support/Engineering can find the root cause.
Here are WPA related fixes from firmware Description:
- CVE-2021-30004
- CVE-2021-27803
- CVE-2019-11555
- CVE-2019-9499
- CVE-2019-9498
- CVE-2019-9497
- CVE-2019-9496
- CVE-2019-9495
- CVE-2019-9494
- CVE-2017-13086

Thank you for your valuable feedback.
And I would suggest contacting Asus support and see if they received any similar feedback or beta firmware.
You may need to update router firmware ( sometimes roll back to old firmware if issue happens after router firmware update) with help of router support.

At the same time
1. (important) Mac address & Hardware firmware version of TP-link smart devices. (please share via private message)
e.g. HS105. UK, V2 , MAC XX ,
2. firmware & hardware version & model of Asus router
3. May I have the router log showing Smart device keep disconnecting & reconnect ,thank you.
3. Does smart devices connected to Router directly or through extenders , it is a Mesh router?
As the issue is quite usual, I would like to escalate through email, please check your inbox.
Thank you
