Model: Deco X5700
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.2

Updated 4 X5700 to firmware 1.2.2 from 1.1.6.

  • Deco page and primary unit is reporting message: "Abnormal WAN port speed. Please check your WAN port connection"

  • Satellites are reporting: "The Ethernet Backhaul speed is low. Please check your Ethernet cable connection"

Speedtest from a connected device to a Speedtest server is fine (600/500Mb)

Funny considering the release notes said this firmware improves ethernet backhaul.

Addressing the obvious questions in advance:

  • System is configured in AP mode (primary reason I selected TP Link deco)

  • System ran with no issues or notifications on firmware 1.1.6

  • All units are connected via ethernet to L2 unmanaged 2.5 Gb switch

  • All ethernet runs are certified CAT5e

  • WAN speed is 5Gb

Forum issues:

  • 1 file upload limit per post
  • I combined 3 screenshots into 1 and then tried to upload, and the page hung. After 5 minutes I gave up and reloaded the page, losing all this typing. Fix: Tell users what the file upload limits are.

Yes we know about this and are working on it.  It is an error related to the 2.5Gbps port that is being used to connect the main unit to the modem/router.  If you are using a 1Gbps speed or lower ISP you can swap the cable to a 1Gbps to remove the messaging.  If your have a ISP about 1Gbps then you can just keep it connected to 2.5Gbps port but the message will remain until the concern is fixed. We will be releasing FW to address this concern.

Hi, I see you are using cat 5e cables for a 2.5Ghz switch and maybe you also need to change a higher cable, like cat 6 or cat 7.

Best regards.

IEEE 802.3bz, cat5e is certified to carry 2.5Gb up to 100m. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5GBASE-T_and_5GBASE-T

In fact, cat5e can carry faster speeds for shorter runs. I have a shorter run of 92 ft negotiating and passing traffic at 10Gb. The longest deco run is 82 ft. But my cat5e runs are certified, which isn't typical for most consumers, so advising a higher spec cable is reasonable.

@Carl So this is a cosmetic UI bug only?

Yes, from my understanding it is only cosmetic.  Though to be fair i don't have speeds above 1Gbps so I can't 100% rule that it is speed affecting as well.  For example it could very well be a negoation concern but I haven't seen anything reported to that, yet.  I do know our engineering team is aware and they are working toward a solution as soon as possible.
