I cannot for the life of me figure out why the approval/denial screen requires knowing your device's MAC address before making that decision. Is it not possible to list the device name, brand, system version, model, and device type?

It seems uncessary, and then you have to figure out what a device MAC is, which varies by device and often isn't available for many devices without using another app. For example, Amazon Echo Dots do not tell this information. Google Chromebooks are locked down for schools, etc.

I'm not sure if this is a feature request, because no programmer worth their salt would have not thought of this. I assume it is just wasn't important enough to be approved by management. But it is a major usability issue when switching to using a white list.

I don't think it is secure or sane to add something to your network without knowing what it is, so the process of adding something should be as straightforward as possible and offer all the information needed to make a decision up front. You shouldn't have to hunt through different apps, and systems just to figure out what you are adding.

On a related note, I have Amazon tablets, and Echo devices. None of them came up with a sensible device type by default and there isn't sensibe choice. I would expect there to be a Smart Speaker option under IoT Devices. One device (not sure what) comes up as a smart plug, which I don't even have. The amazon devices are probably the most popular by volume, there is no reason I should have to divine what I am adding to my network and then manually select a device type that is incorrect.
