Feature Request - Add Local DNS/Hostname Mapping in Deco series
Dear TP-Link Team,
I’m a long-time TP-Link user and currently using the Deco Mesh system (Deco BE67) as my main home router. I’d like to submit a feature request that would greatly improve functionality for advanced users.
Requested Feature:
Please add Local DNS / Static Hostname Mapping support in the Deco system.
This means allowing users to manually create DNS records such as:
nas.home.lan → 192.168.68.10 printer.home.lan → 192.168.68.15
Why It’s Important:
-
Many users host NAS, Home Assistant, or other internal services that are easier to access using friendly hostnames instead of IPs.
-
Current Deco firmware only allows specifying upstream DNS servers, but not defining local DNS entries.
-
Competing routers (Asus, Ubiquiti, Synology, etc.) support local DNS or static hostname mapping, which makes network management and internal name resolution much easier.
Benefit to Users:
-
Simplifies access to local servers (e.g., NAS, printers, smart hubs).
-
Enables consistent hostname resolution even if IPs are reserved by DHCP.
-
Reduces the need for an external DNS server or secondary router.
If possible, please consider adding this to the upcoming firmware roadmap or making it available under the Advanced Network Settings menu in the Deco app or web UI.
Thank you for continuously improving Deco systems — they are excellent for stability and coverage. Adding local DNS would make them even better for power users and smart home enthusiasts.
Kind regards,
James Xiang
