It would be great if the PTZ camera could continute tracking an object even after that object has left the range where the object type can be correctly identified.  For example, a camera on the side of my house monitors a path that runs near my house. We've had issues with people on this path leaving trash, etc.  The PTZ camera correctly identifies Person at certain points where the path is closer to my house and begins to track their movement.  As they leave the range where the camera can still identify them as People it will stop tracking them, even though this distance is still well within visual range. Probably about 10 feet further out than it can determine they are people. The AI should be smart enough to conitnue tracking them as long as they are actually wtihin visual range even if it can't say for sure they are still People. I can image a movable threshold for "keep tracking until confidence hits X%" or something would work. Or a % of object option where it keeps pixle matching/tracking until it hits a point where there are less than the set % matched pixles of the original detected object.

Hi,
On the Tapo camera's Device Settings > Detection > Person Detection page, you can increase the detection sensitivity and check if this helps.

If the reported phenomenon persists, could you send us a video showing it for further analysis? You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive) or YouTube, generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Two things on this.  First, the sensitivity is a weird one for me. My C246D has the fixed lense pointing at my back yard and the PTZ lense pointing at the side of my house where the path is. If I increase the sensitivity too much, the fixed lense starts to have too many false positives. A plant on my deck will show movement in the breeze and, because it is next to my grill, the fixed lense sees the group of items as a Person. Not it's fault, the objects (when looked at together from the cameras perspective) do have a sort-of human shape. I tried training the AI by correcting the event type, but I think that may have also caused the PTZ lense to start dropping things it shuold be picking up.  Long and short, I'm going to open a new thread with a feature request to allow individual lense sensitivity.

Second thing, I realized today as I was looking through some video clips for you that the problem isn't actually quite what I thought it was. There are some trees along the path that break up the Person shape at certain points. This is where the PTZ stops tracking. I'll send you a video clip that shows this... the AI identifies a person as they enter the frame, looses them they are partially blocked by a tree, and then can't identify them as a person for the rest of the clip. My feature request would still solve this. If the AI had continued tracking motion in the same pixel area that the Person was, it would have tracked them through the whole clip.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi,
Thank you for the video provided. Based solely on the provided video, the camera's tracking function appears to be working correctly. Since the person is obscured by a tree, and no complete human figure reappears in the camera's view, the camera won't recognize the detected event as a person and therefore won't track it.

For the feature requested to have a movable threshold for "keep tracking until confidence hits X%", I'll log it and forward it to the relevant team for evaluation.

Best Regards
