All TP-Link range extenders

Issue Description/Phenomenon:

  • Range extender keeps losing connection from main router (Wi-Fi or Signal Led goes off).
  • Wi-Fi or Signal Led stays ON, but range extender has unstable issue.

Troubleshooting Tips:

1. Ensure the main Wi-Fi network on the router is stable first.

2. Ensure the range extender is on the latest firmware:

Upgrade firmware for RE on Tether app or download the latest firmware from TP-Link Download Center for your model.

3. Turn off Wi-Fi optimizing, Band-steering (Smart Connect/ Whole-Home Wi-Fi) features on routers as guide below:

Fix Unstable Connection on the Range Extender by Changing Router Advanced Features

4. Try a different Wi-Fi channel on router:

Scan for nearly Wi-Fi channels using Wi-Fi analyzer app or software and select a less crowded channel for router.

5. Check the LED status on RE when RE loses Internet.

Case 1: Wi-Fi Led or Signal Led stays ON when issue happens:

Turn ON RE’s DHCP Server, set up a static IP and smaller IP address pool for RE as the instruction here:

TP-Link range extender can't connect to my router properly?

Case2: Wi-Fi Led or Signal Led goes OFF when issue happens

Locate RE closer to router and place range extender in a good location as this guide:

How to place your wireless Range Extender for optimal reception and performance?

If the issue persists despite the above steps, please Start a New Thread for your range extender with case details (steps you've tried) and we'd love to look into that further:

1. Led status on RE when issue happens.

2. Try to log in range extender web page when issue occurs and share a photo of Status page.
3. How often does RE lose Internet and how to recover, like reboot RE or reboot router?
4. Brand and model of router &  Network topology, e.g.  Router AX1500 <wireless> RE450.
5. Firmware and hardware version of RE:  How to find the hardware and firmware version of my TP-Link device?
6. For dual-band extender, verify if the problem is with 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz or both.
7. When did you buy the extender, and how long has it been working fine with the same router?

8. Does the issue particularly happen during in certain/ large-traffic network activities, like P2P download, streaming, or gaming?

I have an re450 that keeps losing connection since I plugged a computer on the lan port. Alle the leds stay on but there is just no internet tried everything above.

Even tried shutting down the extended range wifi and using an older tp link ac2300 plugged via lan to the re450 to manage the wifi and the lan. Didn't change a thing. After about half an hour it does the same thing. When I reboot the re450 everything works for about 1/2 an hour each time. I changed the location but it is actually closer than it was before and the wifi from the router show 4 bars on the re450...

I can't figure out the problem

Good day@platipus25 ,sorry for the late response, may I know did you try the high speed mode on RE450 and see if that helps with the stability. Enable high speed mode : Connect the extender to the main router through (5Ghz) and the extender to your devices through (2.4 GHz) or vice versa.

May I know the firmware and hardware version of your RE, and the network topology, e.g Archer C2300 <wireless>RE450 --PC, how long this extender has been working before?

@Solla-topee I have the latest firmware for the Range Extender 1.0.5. Hardware v2

I tried the high speed thing. It's been doing that since I plugged my daugthers computer with a ethernet cable. No wifi on the pc. Worked ok about 6 months as a range extender only. No I want to use it to connect the pc. Even tried shutting down the wifi from the extender to use it only with the eternet cable. To no avail. When it does it I can't event acces the re450 with the app or with the browser from the computer it's plugged in. Looks like it's crashing. My router is an asus ax3000.

If the above does not help, may  I have a chance to know the model of wired adapter on your computer? Thank you.

@Solla-topee

I updated the firmware but same thing still happens.

The motherboard I an asus z87 sabertooth and it's got an intel I217v network controller. Even without the computer connected it does the same thing. It started doing it when I plugged the computer via lan but now even without the computer there is still a problem.

I bought this in January 2021

@Solla-topee I have just bought a RE200 v4.0 and it keeps losing connection for about 10 seconds every 2 to 5 minutes.

Firmware: 1.0.7 Build 20200922 Rel. 39466

Router: tenda 1900

My main wifi network is stable

I tried different channels

The extender is connected to the router in only one band

The extender has a static IP and the DHCP server is configured manually (and address lease time is set to the max (2880))

I don't see any errors in the log of the extender neither on the rooter

Any idea ?

Hello@garitu , may I know RE200 connect to router via 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz band, how about the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz Led status on the range extender when it drops connection?

If RE bridges the 5Ghz band only, you could try non-DFS 5Ghz channels like 36,40,44,48, and lower the 5Ghz channel width to 40Mhz on router.

How does the connection recover, like reboot RE/ router or internet will recover by itself? How long this extenders has been working with router before, did you update or change router wireless setting recently? Did you try to locate RE closer to router before? Thank you.
