Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I have 4 tapo camera's at my property and i plan on getting two more I dont use tapo care and im not very comfortable with having SD card storage on the devices itself,  if it happens to get stolen there would be no way of viewing what happened so I want to get a NVR to have in our home instead and record continously since Vigi is apart of tplink I would think it has the best compatibility of all nvr's or atleast the same. I don't have much knowledge on these things as i have zero experience....so I would like to know a few things! Firstly i understand that if it's connected to the vigi nvr and if you use the vigi app to access the camera you won't be able to use all the features that the vigi app has available or what the tapo cameras and apps usually would have available, it's my understanding that the simple features work like motion detection.

I would like to know what other features would work when used on the vigi app? Also if I go onto the tapo would the tapo app work as usual whilst connected to the nvr for continous recording. Would I still be able to use a memory card on my tapo camera for day to day playback for immediate viewing of AI detection alerts, Will the ai human detection, line crossing,two way talk, Pan and tilt features all still work as usual if I'm using the tapo app?

Hi,
1. It's suggested to start a new thread here to confirm the features you can use on the VIGI app.

2. Typically, when the Tapo camera connects to the VIGI NVR, the features on the Tapo app won't be affected; the Detection, Notification, Two-Way Talk, and Pan & Tilt features are working as usual.
The Tapo app cannot watch the video recordings stored on the NVR. If you want to watch the video recordings on the Tapo app, you must insert an SD card into the camera or subscribe to the Tapo Care service. (To establish the RTSP connection, please do not subscribe to the Tapo Care plan and insert an SD card into the camera simultaneously.)

Best Regards

  @Kesh007

Unfortunatly only basic detections are working.

TP-Link doesn't want to make efforts since the beginning to manage Tapo cameras on Vigi NVR.

With the Vigi your can read records and watch live. You must use the Tapo app for every others things.

Maybe buying the new Tapo NVR instead the Vigi one will work better.

Hi @jvachez,

Thank you for the info. I thought...

We talk about 2 different ecosystem/target usage and that's absolutely understandable if TP-LINK doesn't want to mix them.

The problem is that at the beginning Tapo NVR didn't exist. And TP-Link says to buy Vigi NVR so now we have a non full working system.
