Model: TL-WA1201
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.0

Hi

I have two TL-WA1201 APs. One is in an area where relatively few devices connect and is abolutely fine. The other is in an area where eaily 25 plus devices connect (laptops/ipads/Echos and Particle Photons). The device with higher usage will "lock up" serveral times a day, requiring a power cycle (off/on) to get it working again. By "lock up" I mean that all devices are disconnected and presented with an incorrect WiFi password error.

I tried a factory reset and only changing SSID and password, no joy the problem persists.

The system log shows the following errors:

Hardware Version: TL-WA1201 v2.0
Software Version: 1.0.0 Build 20191204 rel.41918

Hello everyone,

For TL-WA1201 unstable issue, please try beta firmware below and see if it helps improve the stability

Model: TL-WA1201 V2

Beta note:  for TL-WA1201 V2 unstable issue /  unstable when AP works in multi SSID mode or different VLANs :
https://static.tp-link.com/beta/2021/202106/20210628/TL-WA1201v2_eu-up-ver1-0-1-P1[20210628-rel55053].zip

Note: kindly review Terms and Conditions for TP-Link Beta Firmware before try this beta firmware

For Access point unstable concern, please start a new thread here and help provide some details below to investigate further:

1)  How long the access point has been working fine before, or when did the issue start?  e.g. WA1201 has worked fine for 3 months

2)  the model of router & network topology

e.g. ISP - Archer C7 router model  <Ethernet> TL-WA1201 <Wireless> Windows 10 PC

3) How many clients are connected to the TL-WA1201 and what are the models of devices:

When the devices got disconnected, would there be any error message, like incorrect password, or unable to connect to this network?

4) How often the issue happen:

5) How does the connection recover every time, like reboot AP, reconnect Wi-Fi on certain device:

By the way,  please help  to save the system log when the connection dropped if you could access AP web page at that time --*please do not reboot the access point before you saved the logs;

6) Was there any large traffic network activities like P2P downloading etc. when issue occur?

7) current firmware and hardware version of AP (It is recommended to try beta firmware above)

Thank you.

Dear TP-LINK,

I have exactly the same issues on my side, example:

Hardware Version: TL-WA1201 v2.0

2020-07-12 15:53:26 led-controller[648]: <7> 288007 Failed to match led WAN_INET

2020-07-12 15:53:26 led-controller[648]: <6> 288051 Start to run LAN_ON

Are there any news regarding fixes (from what we can see on your support pages this problem is well known on various TP-LINK products) or should we send this not reliable hardware back to seller (or on warranty perhaps?)?

@boyek

I had some sucess with using multiple SSIDs. I think there is an issue with the number of users. i going to replace this device.

@A_User

Thank you for letting me know.

They advertise this piece of hardware even for corporate users (splitting SSIDs etc.) and it is going down at small home businness... with only two computers, two phones, cooking machine and simple POS terminal... six connections in total (!). On different Chinese company router there are no issues at all (except range of course) so all hardware connected is not bugged - we have pure TP-LINK device problem here. :(

I've just bought this access point and set it up in Multi-SSID mode. I've created three 2.4GHz SSIDs and one 5GHz SSID. I've also assigned VLAN tags to three of them. The WLAN networks are unstable and devices are disconnecting/reconnecting constantly.

Everything is configured properly, I'm on the latest firmware and other access points have no problems when used in the same role as this one. The product is just simply not working as advertised.

Can anyone from TP-Link say if this is going to be fixed?

@Zachar

Good day,

Sorry for the delay.

For your case, would you please help me check the following information:

1. How long have you had the TL-WA1201 and when did this issue start?

2. how many clients are connected to the TL-WA1201?

3. when the devices got disconnected, would there be any error message, like incorrect password, or unable to connect to this network?

4. May I know the model number of your home router?

By the way, could you please help me to save the system log when the connection dropped?---please do not reboot the access point before you saved the logs;

If possible, please refer to the following picture to modify the wireless channel on 1201:

Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

I've posted a similar problem else where on this forum and my WA1201 has been freezing with only one connected user (a Wi-Fi door bell!). Also my logfile errors are similar to the ones ones on this post implying it's systemic issues affecting all units?

@TP-Link

Thank you for getting back to me. To answer your questions:

1. How long have you had the TL-WA1201 and when did this issue start?

It happened right after unboxing and updating firmware on day one.

2. how many clients are connected to the TL-WA1201?

Six.

3. when the devices got disconnected, would there be any error message, like incorrect password, or unable to connect to this network?

No. They disconnect and try to reconnect without success.

4. May I know the model number of your home router?

x86 unit with OPNsense installed.

By the way, could you please help me to save the system log when the connection dropped?---please do not reboot the access point before you saved the logs;

File attached. I only tuned on the unit. Nothing else was done after it.

If possible, please refer to the following picture to modify the wireless channel on 1201

Changing channels did not affect the reported performance.

@Zachar  even if there are no users connected, after some time like every 24h when a new user tries to log in(only one user), TL-WA1201 response as ''unable to connect to this network'' so it is not about how many connections are made, you have to restart it every day... Also it makes this when used as AP with lan cable.. When It works as wifi repeater problem seems like disappearing..
