Model: TL-MR6400
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version:

I bought this router to use it in a ship with a 4g sim, it works great with avarage connection speed up to 20Mbps with speedtests. its located right next to a window opening.

I was wondering if i could replace the 2 antennas with this one:

4g lte antenna

Is this one good for me? the new antenna will be placed outside, will the wifi be ok?

@Kostas7

Hi, the TL-MR6400 v5 has 2 × Detachable External 4G LTE Antennas.

Since we did not test the compatibility with different antennas, it is not suggested to replace the original antennas;

And If you preferred to change the LTE antennas, please refer to the following advice:

1). Please change two antennas at the same time, and the two replacement antennas should have the same specifications because the two antennas work together. If you only change one of them, it will not achieve the desired effect, but the effect may be worse.

2). For the replaced antenna, the interface type needs to be matched. The interface type of the two external antennas is SMA plug, that is SMA male;

3). The frequency range supported by the replacement antennas should be the same as the original antennas.

4). The distance between the two replacement antennas shall not be less than the distance between the original antennas.

Thank you very much.

@Kostas,

I am going to do the same as you (using external antenna and place it outside the window), I would like to know if it works (ie. improve the reception of 4G signal), thanks

@TP-Link

I am not replacing the original TP-link external antenna. For better 4G signal reception (not confirmed yet), I want to use a pair of an extension to connect with the original antenna in one end and the other end will be connected to the router. the cable is 2-meter in length, so that I can place the original TP-link antenna outside the window. Thanks

@Kostas7

I am assuming you are based out of Greece?

I am in the same boat. I ordered a Poynting XPOL omnidirectional antenna and connected it to the MR600. My place is a renovated old stone-built house with 90cm walls, so having the router with its native antennas on the inside would have not worked.

With the external antenna installed on the SMA connectors, it is working like a dream. I have access to two antennas over the sea at my location and I am able to get 4G+ with speeds over 100Mbps at:

RSRP: -102dB

RSRQ: -7dB

SNR: 16.4dB

I hope this helps. You can DM me for more info.

@sanctimon

Thank you. That is good news. So an external antenna improves signal greatly.

What type of antenna did you use?
