Since updating to Windows 11 22H2, I'm getting heavy connection issues with the UB500 Bluetooth 5.0 dongle.

Issue description

  • Pairing a new headphone (tested with Apple AirPods 2 and Beats Solo), works in most cases. But establishing the connection is very slow. After choosing the headphone to connect, it shows almost immediately "connected", but then takes about 30 seconds, until it shows the additional "Music connected" and I can hear the computer's audio.
  • When trying to re-connect an already paired headphone, the connection never succeeds.
    The attempt fails after some time with the error message: "Setup has been blocked due to a group policy".
    I have to remove (un-pair) the device from the bluetooth settings, then set the headphone to pairing mode, and then pair again.

What I tested so far

  • Uninstall the dongle using the device manager
  • Disable energy save mode in device diver settings
  • Download the latest driver (from 2021) from the support page, and install again
  • Reboot system
  • Swtich USB port

Hints

  • Doing some research leaded to the following results. The driver might need to add some policies, so that windows can handle the pairing correctly.
  • See: https://www.techzine.eu/news/devices/75591/microsoft-releases-a-fix-for-bluetooth-problem-causing-blue-screens/
  • See: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/mdm/policy-csp-bluetooth#bluetooth-servicesallowedlist
  • When I check the ServicesAllowedList in my registry, I actually have no entries.
    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Bluetooth\ServicesAllowedList

Hi, I almost tried everything possible. But the only thing that helped was entirely reinstalling Windows. I'm guessing this is related to a bug at the Windows Sound Controller, as there have also been heavy issues with Intel Audio devices.

  Hello @rolandrolando

Thank you for starting a detailed post and share your findings.

I shared with you  another driver by PM for test purpose, please see if that helps

To look into this further, can I have the photos of the driver date and PC OS and motherboard information.

How to check driver version of TP-Link adapters and system information of your computer

Hi @Solla-topee  Unfortunately the new driver has similar behaviour.

Before installing the new driver:

After installation:

However there is still this unknown device entry in the device manager.

Probably this is can still be a Windows bug. There were some sound issues reported recently

  @rolandrolando

Good morning,

Where can I get the latest version of the driver for it? I only has the 4/27/2021 V1.6.1015.3020.

Thanks in advance.

  @Ottawa

Hi,

Have you already checked in your computer's "Windows Update" whether it shows any optional updates that can be installed? (if there are, then there would be a link under the "Check for updates" button)
Maybe the driver version 1.9.1041.3002 is actually available on Windows Update.

Another method would be to go to the Device Manager, right-click on the entry for the "TP-Link Bluetooth 5.0 USB Adapter", click "Update driver" and then let Windows "Search automatically for drivers".

Hey I Think I might be in the same boat here. Got a laptop running Windows 11 trying to pair a set of headphones to the UB500. Problem is is that I've already got Bluetooth installed on my machine. So it keeps trying to pair to the laptop and not the adapter itself which has a final destination of an xbox series s console. I've disabled all entries for bluetooth in my Manager besides the UB500 entry no dice. Same thing with shutting off bluetooth entirely through windows. Nada. Can anyone offer some useful insight?
