I was getting the message "You have viewed the live video for 5 minutes without any operation. Continue the viewing?"

Clicking the Continue button worked fine for another 5 minutes


My solution was to ensure that the cam antennae were rotated into the vertical position (I had them lying horizontally for aesthetic reasons).
This suggests that my WiFi connection was below the optimum. It might also have been the rainy weather interfering with the WiFi.

My signal has to go through two walls. This also suggests that ethernet might be more reliable than WiFi.


A workaround that tp-link could offer, is to automatically "continue" after the warning appears after 5 minutes. After all, the video was fine for 5 minutes.

I still get the occasional frozen video picture which requires manual intervention. It would be nice if the Tapo app could detect a frozen image, and refresh automatically.

Why can't I view the live stream of the Tapo camera continuously?

This morning I again started getting the warning message "You have viewed the live video for 5 minutes without any operation. Continue the viewing?"

 

I tried the instructions provided, but they were not helpful.

 

This morning, I had put up a metal clothes dryer. Removing it solved the problem, again suggesting that it was interfering with the Cam WiFi.

It would be useful if the Tapo app could indicate the Cam WiFi signal

Hi, 
On the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, you can tap the Wi-Fi icon to see the Wi-Fi signal strength(RSSI value).
