Model: Tapo C120
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

After a long research and good reviews I bought my first ever camera tapo c120. It says it can be used outside and it's waterproof. I've used the self adhesive magnet supplied with the camera to stick it to my window glass outside. The picture quality is great both day and night. I'm just curious if my camera will survive bad weather (heavy rain, wind, frost in the winter). Will the magnet hold the camera correctly? Should I cover the camera somehow from the heavy rain or even the heatwave etc? Or would I need to use different connections (ie screw it into the wall by the window?). Maybe there's someone here with longer experience in this matter to reassure me please...

Hi,
Thank you for choosing the Tapo C120 and sharing your experience! We are delighted to hear that you are satisfied with the picture quality.

The Tapo C120 features an IP66 Water and Dust Resistance, making it suitable for outdoor use. It can withstand rain, dust, and typical weather conditions. However, in extreme weather conditions (such as heavy rain, strong winds, frost, or heatwaves), we still recommend taking additional protective measures to prolong the device's lifespan and ensure stable operation.

Here are some installation suggestions:

Use a Shelter: While the camera itself is waterproof, we recommend installing a simple rain shelter or cover above the installation location. Alternatively, consider placing the camera in a sheltered corner or under eaves to minimize prolonged exposure to extreme weather.

Secure Mounting: The Tapo C120 offers various flexible mounting methods, all of which have undergone rigorous testing. If you're concerned about the possibility of the C120 falling in extreme conditions, you can refer to the QIG, specifically Option 4: Mounting to the Wall (Without the Metal Plate). This option allows you to securely attach the C120 directly to the wall using screws. While this method provides enhanced stability, it sacrifices some flexibility compared to the "3M Adhesive + Metal Plate" installation option. If you prioritize stability over flexibility, this direct mounting method is an excellent choice.

Best Regards
