Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.7

Hi everyone,

I recently installed two Tapo C660 KIT cameras and I'm very happy with them overall. I have a question about the night mode settings.

Currently I use infrared mode at night, which gives a decent black and white image. The color mode with spotlights is much better for identifying people, but I don't want the spotlights on all night for two reasons: battery drain and unnecessary light pollution when nothing is happening.

My question: is it possible to configure the camera to stay in infrared mode by default at night, but automatically switch to color mode (spotlights on) only when motion or a person is detected?

I've looked through the night mode settings and detection settings in the Tapo app but can't find this option. Does this feature exist, possibly through a recent firmware update?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,
To clarify first, Color Mode does not keep the spotlight on continuously. In Color Mode, the spotlight turns on only when the camera is awakened, such as when motion is detected or when the camera is triggered by other events.

Please also note that opening the Live View in the app will keep the camera in an awakened state, so the spotlight will remain on while you are actively viewing the live stream.

To better understand the issue, could you please confirm whether:
The camera’s light stays on all night continuously, even when there is no motion and Live View is not open?

Best Regards.
