Model: Deco X10
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.4.0

Hello community and moderators,

I am experiencing a critical network stability issue with my Deco X10 v1 after upgrading to the latest firmware 1.4.0 (Build 20251222). The entire Wi-Fi network drops and restarts every few minutes.

Since the downgrade to 1.3.0 or 1.2.0 is completely blocked by the web interface ("Upgrade failed. Please select the latest version of firmware to upgrade"), I am stuck on this broken release.

My Topology:

  • Model: Deco X10(EU) v1, 2-pack.

  • Mode: Access Point (AP Mode).

  • Backhaul: Ethernet (connected via switches/router ports, not daisy-chained).

The Problem: Even with Ethernet backhaul and in AP mode, the firmware's AI-Driven Roaming feature seems to be completely broken. It loops trying to read temporary files from memory, fails, overloads the Realtek wireless driver, and then the entire roaming daemon panics and crashes (Leaving nrd executive program), wiping all client connections. This happens even at night with zero active client devices.

Here is the exact crash sequence from my system logs:
daemon.err nrd[26445]: ar_config_load_thres[line 62]: Fail to open file /tmp/ai_roaming/ar_thres/06-F4-3E-9D-5A-12_0
daemon.notice nrd[26445]: ar_pat_calc_cand_datarate[line 702]: Cannot find 6E4CBC3C57A5 in apinfo list.
daemon.err nrd[26445]: rtk_get_vap_status: cfg80211 return -19
daemon.notice nrd[26445]: ar_apinfo_collect[line 1138]: AP sync timer expires!
...
daemon.err nrd[2208]: ar_config_load_thres[line 62]: Fail to open file /tmp/ai_roaming/ar_thres/BA-6D-B4-DC-FF-CC_0
daemon.notice nrd[2208]: Leaving nrd executive program
daemon.notice nrd[2658]: Initializing main of nrd executive program
daemon.err nrd[2658]: rtk_set_maccmd_clearlist 530: cmd = iwpriv wlan1-vap1 set_mib tpacl_delmac=ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff-2

Turning off Fast Roaming or 2.4GHz band in the app does not stop this background loop.

Could you please look into this log and provide a link to a Beta firmware that patches this ai_roaming / nrd loop crash?

Thank you!

  @MeDcecTpa

Hi, welcome to the community.

The Deco's logs may not reflect the actual issues with the device. Regarding the network stability issue on the Deco X10, please provide the following information for further analysis.

 1. What's the LED status on the Deco when the network drops? Do the Deco nodes restore the connection automatically but lose connection repeatedly?
 2. Before firmware updates, do you have a stable connection to the Deco network?
 3. Please try disconnecting the Deco nodes from the switch and connecting them directly to the router's LAN ports. Do the Deco nodes work fine?
 4. Please connect a laptop to your router directly and test if the laptop has a stable connection.

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Hi,

Thank you for the response. To address your questions and isolate the issue from my infrastructure, here are the details:

1. LED Status and Behavior When the drop occurs, the Main Deco LED briefly flashes Red, then turns Green again within 1–2 minutes. Yes, it restores the connection automatically, but the cycle repeats continuously. This perfectly correlates with the logs: the nrd (Network Roaming Daemon) process crashes (Leaving nrd executive program) and then completely reinitializes (Initializing main of nrd), which restarts the wireless interfaces.

2. Connection Stability Before the Update The network was rock-solid for months on firmware 1.3.0 with the exact same hardware, identical switch topology, and the same clients. The drops started immediately after the forced upgrade to 1.4.0 (Build 20251222).

3. Troubleshooting Infrastructure (Switches/Router) Yes, I have already tested connecting both Decos directly to the main router's LAN ports using brand new Cat6 patch cords, bypassing all intermediate switches. The issue persists. The nrd daemon still loops, returns rtk_get_vap_status: cfg80211 return -19, and crashes regardless of the physical connection type.

4. Upstream Router Stability A laptop connected directly to the upstream router has a perfectly stable connection with 0% packet loss. The router is completely fine.

Additional Technical Context for Engineering: The logs clearly show that nrd enters a critical background loop dealing with 802.11k beacon reports and neighbor requests (estimatorDot11kIterateCB: Timeout waiting for 802.11k response). Crucially, this loop and the subsequent crashes happen even when there are no active client devices connected to the network (e.g., in the middle of the night).

The daemon triggers "unknown STA" events (Beacon report for unknown STA 00:00:00:00:00:00) and floods the system until the Realtek driver layer fails (return -19).

Turning off "Fast Roaming" or disabling specific bands in the Deco App does not stop this internal daemon from handling these events and crashing.

Since a firmware downgrade is blocked via the Web UI, please escalate this to the senior engineering team to check the nrd daemon stability in Access Point Mode on firmware 1.4.0, or provide a link to a patched Beta release.

Is there any update? My deco x10 v1, currently on 1.4.0, behave just like yours. Solid green, flashing red for 1-3 minutes, and then solid green, and repeats the same cycles.

  @The-man

Hi, welcome to the community.

Usually, you can refer to the following instructions to troubleshoot if you have an unstable phenomenon when connecting to Deco.
Fix unstable connection when connected to the Deco network

Please provide the following information if the same phenomenon persists.
  1. How many Deco X10 do you have? Please describe your network diagram. Or go to the Deco app > Network tab, please tap a Deco, and send us the screenshots of the Show Map and Show List pages.
  2. How often does the reported phenomenon occur?
  3. When the reported phenomenon occurs, what's the LED status on the main Deco? Does it switch from solid green to solid red, then back to solid green?
  4. Does your Deco work in AP mode? If so, is there a switch in your Deco network?

Best Regards
