This Article applied to:

All Deco models

There are several typical network layouts for Ethernet Backhaul:

Case 1

Case 2

If your current network topology is similar to one of them, please refer to the following troubleshooting suggestions:

1. Temporarily the switch and connect the satellite Deco to the main Deco directly. If the Ethernet Backhaul is active immediately, please check whether your network switch supports IEEE 1905.1 protocol or not. Refer to Q4/Q5 in the below FAQ for more detailed explanation:

General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco

2. If the switch is confirmed IEEE 1905.1 protocol supported, please leave the model number of the switch here.

3. If you are using the TP-Link switches, login to the web UI of the switch, go to Monitoring > Loop Prevention to Disable the Loop Prevention:

Case 3:

Note: It also works in both wireless router and access point mode

 Please refer to the troubleshooting suggestions:

1. Change the Ethernet cable between the Deco nodes.

2. Swap the location of the satellite Deco nodes to confirm that the issue is not caused by a specific Deco.

If the issue persists, comment below with the following information:

--What kind of Ethernet cable do you use, like UTP Cat5e?

 --How long is the cable?

In the meantime, the following beta firmware has optimized the Ethernet Backhaul feature on Deco.

Please also install the firmware first and check whether Ethernet Backhaul could be successfully created.

@TP-Link hi, can you clarify how the 3rd AP on a P9 connection should show?

I'm asking because I have 3 P9's, setup on a 3-floor house. I have 1 P9 p/floor, my P9 on the 3rd floor when I go to signal source It shows the "2.4 GHz/5GHz - PLC" but the signal source says it's coming from the P9 on the 2nd floor. My primary P9 is on 1st floor, since it's a plc system and it shows connected using PLC, shouldn't the source be the main P9?

Hi, thank you for the feedback.

It is quite unexpected and can I have screenshots about the 3rd Deco P9?

If possible, could you please log into the web UI and send me a picture of the network map?

@Brain_Killer

Hi, Thank you very much for the detailed pictures.

After checking with the senior engineer, it turns out the signal source here only displays the wireless signal source when wireless backhaul and PLC backhaul  are both active.

But for the P9, the signal source of PLC backhaul is the main Deco P9.

@TP-Link Thanks for the reply.

Is there any plans to update the GUI on the app to reflect this? Right now is confusing to understand how the P9's are setup/working as you can see from both images...

PLC units always connect directly to the main unit through the power grid. They don't daisy chain. All PLC works like this, so you probably won't get an a GUI change.

  @TP-Link If the main modem/router has enough ethernet ports, let's say four, do we still have to use a switch?

  @TP-Link In ethernet backhaul, do we have to use a pure ethernet cable, or it also works through powerlines?

Hi, please refer to the following information:

If the main modem/router has enough ethernet ports, let's say four, do we still have to use a switch?

No, as long as the main router supports IEEE 1905.1 protocol, a switch is not necessary.

In ethernet backhaul, do we have to use a pure ethernet cable, or it also works through powerlines?

Yes, the Ethernet backhaul also works over powerline.

Best regards.

  @TP-Link

Quick question that I thought would be a simple feature of this system...

I have the main deco plugged into the router and a 2nd connected to the main wirelessly upstairs.

I'm trying to use an ethernet port on the one upstairs to allow my cctv receiver to connect to the network as it isn't wireless.

All the advice I can see online is that the 2nd ethernet port in the main deco can be used for a wired connection but what about the ethernet ports in the other decos?

Can I not have a wireless connection between the decos that then allows me to add wired devices to the ports in the other decos?
