Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 210623 Rel.33906n (6985)

Hi,

I have RE300 connected to Archer C6 v2.0 (1.3.6 Build 20200902 rel.65591(4555)) as a OneMesh device, and RE300 sporadically drops connection to Archer C6 on the 2.4GHz band.

After dropping the 2.4GHz connection, it also drops all clients connected to him (RE300) on the 5GHz band, and all clients are bounced to Archer C6. when that happens, it still shows that clients are connected to him, and it looks fine in the Archer C6 management UI (screenshots attached)

I tried factory resetting RE300, but it didn't help.

Rebooting Archer C6 doesn't resolve the issue. Following a reboot, RE300 can't reestablish a connection to either of the bands of Archer C6. Only removing the RE300 from the power outlet and connecting back restores the connection.

I also tried to disable the wireless smart connect option on the router, but it didn't help, and the issues still occur at least three times a day.

Archer C6 doesn't seem to have any issues with either of the wireless bands at the time of the issue, and generally speaking, it never had any issues for the past three years.

Please assist in resolving this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Alex.

In case someone else has a similar issue, here's what worked for me:

I used a wifi analyzer app on an android phone (I couldn't find any useful enough on IOS) and found that Archer c6 placed the 2.4GHz channel right in a middle of a very crowded side of the spectrum (ch 5 and neighbors were using channels 3-6). I changed the 2.4GHz channel from AUTO to 13, and all my issues disappeared. RE300 has been stable ever since.

  @AlexOs

Good to know you have tried some tips RE unstable troubleshooting guide. Thank you for staring a new thread and providing some case details here, please also check if you tried below suggestions:

1. To help isolate the issue, it is recommended to set up use different Wifi SSIDs for 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz  on router

. At the location of range extender, please make sure network devices can get stable connect when connect to 2.4Ghz network of router

2. With Smart Connect OFF,  try a different 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi channel on the router:

Scan for nearly Wi-Fi channels using Wi-Fi analyzer app or software and select a less crowded channel for router.

At the same time can you help confirm some case details here for some further investigation:

1. The detailed network topology, e.g.  Archer C6  <wireless> RE300

What are the devices that connected to RE300. e.g. Wi-Fi network devices that connected to RE dell Win10 laptop . 3 smartphones etc's
2. When did you buy the extender, and how long has it been working fine with the same router?

3. Does Range extender use the same Wifi SSID as router or different SSID, thank you

4. How many network device were connected to extender 5Ghz wifi band before it left only 1 device on 5Ghz?

Will the 2.4Ghz led will come back on the extender or if 2.4Ghz will reconnect Status page after reboot?

Hi @Solla-topee,

Thanks for your helping me out.

I'm using two different SSID names, one for 2.4GHz and one for 5GHz, and it still drops connection with C6 on 2.4 bands.

I tried a WiFi analyzer app and picked the less crowded channel for 2.4GH, 13CH.

At the same time can you help confirm some case details here for some further investigation:

1. The detailed network topology, e.g.  Archer C6  <wireless> RE300 - YES

What are the devices that connected to RE300. e.g. Wi-Fi network devices that connected to RE dell Win10 laptop . 3 smartphones etc's

One HP laptop and 1-2 Iphone devices (all on 5GHz)
2. When did you buy the extender, and how long has it been working fine with the same router?

I bought it about a month ago, It was working fine for a couple of weeks or so.

3. Does Range extender use the same Wifi SSID as router or different SSID, thank you

Same SSID, it's connected as OneMesh.

4. How many network device were connected to extender 5Ghz wifi band before it left only 1 device on 5Ghz?

Two devices. Sometimes it drops 2.4 connection at night when there's no traffic.

Will the 2.4Ghz led will come back on the extender or if 2.4Ghz will reconnect Status page after reboot?

After extender is rebooted yes, after C6 is rebooted RE won't reconnect to C6 at all.

By the way, when that happens and I try to get the RE with the Tether app, I'm getting a message that it's unreachable because I may be connected to a different network of because of parental control (which I don't have enabled), but I still can reach it's managent UI by going to it's IP address.

Hello   @AlexOs

Thank you very much for case details, TP-Link devices usually works on channel 1-11, you may select a channel among 1-11

To help isolate the issue, can you unplug RE300 and test if router's 2.4Ghz is stable for a 1-2 days. (As this router worked for 3 years, i suspect if here is something wrong  with router)

Or do you have a different AP or router, you could test RE300 with it as well.

At the same time, we’d to create a support email TKID220808529 to assist further, please check your email inbox later.
