I would like the ability to use the Tapo smart plug as a trigger device for automation.

This would need to include a trigger when turned on by either software (app or other automation) or manual button press.

The same when turned off.

For example:

Trigger: When turned on by software or button press

Action: Control another Tapo device, or start timer

The same with turn off.

 Hi @QuestionReality

Thank you for sharing ideas with the community! It would be ideal that smart plug can be a Trigger device, this can make more smart action scenarios.

Meanwhile,  you could check if IFTTT can achieve this function, or you could consider if a Tapo Smart button +Hub that was made to work  as a Triggered device to turn on/off other tapo devices.

It would also be useful to have other trigger event like the power protection threshold being hit, or a minimum power threshold being hit. Also for all Tapo devices, an offline trigger, when offline for more than a set period, for events like power cuts or tripped circuits. It would require a keep alive ping and a server to trigger the event, but could be supported by smart hubs.
