Unable to view the camera stream.

Model: Tapo C200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.9

I have been unable to view the camera stream since last 3 days.

I am able to ping the camera.

The camera goes to night vision (IR turns on) means hardware is working on the inside.

ffmpeg shows that it could not find codec format.

The Tapo App does not show the stream but i can change camera settings etc.

Please point me in a direction of what could have gone wrong all a sudden.

  @Kesehet

Hi
If you have a problem streaming the camera's live view page with the Tapo app, please help check.
1. Ensure the Tapo app and the camera's firmware are up to date.
2. Check how many devices are streaming the camera.

Try to turn off the camera, turn it back on, and check if you can stream it with your Tapo app.
3. Factory reset the camera, reconfigure it, and check if you can stream it successfully.

Best Regards

Hi @Solla-topee,

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried the following steps, but the issue persists:

  1. Firmware and App Updates:

    • Both the Tapo app and the camera's firmware are up to date (Firmware Version: 1.3.9) (Hardware Version: 2.0) .
  2. Number of Devices Streaming:

    • There is only one device, occasionally two, accessing the stream at once.
  3. Restarting and Reconfiguring:

    • I have turned off the camera, turned it back on, and attempted to stream with the Tapo app, but I still cannot view the stream.
    • I performed a factory reset on the camera, reconfigured it, and attempted to stream again, but the issue remains.

Additional Details:

  • I am able to ping the camera, its not a network issue.
  • The camera switches to night vision (IR turns on) and the status light is working as well, indicating that the hardware is functional.
  • ffmpeg now reports "Server returned 400 Bad Request".
  • The Tapo app allows me to change camera settings, but the stream is not viewable.

Could you please guide me on what might have gone wrong or any additional steps I can take to resolve this issue?

Is it possible to downgrade the software?

Best Regards

  @Kesehet

Hi,
On the Tapo app>camera's Device Settings>Advanced Settings>Display Settings page, please select the Compatible Mode and check if you can watch the camera's live feed successfully.

If the problem remains, please help confirm:
1. What error message appears on the camera's live view page when fail to watch it?
2. What's the version of your Tapo app? Have you tried to watch the camera with a different phone?
3. Is your phone and the camera connected to the same Wi-Fi network when streaming the camera?
4. Where did you see the error message "Server returned 400 Bad Request"?

Best Regards

Hi @Solla-topee,

Thank you for your continued assistance.

  • I have tried both the Compatible Mode and the Hardware Acceleration Mode as you suggested. Unfortunately, the issue persists. There are no error messages on the app's camera live view page; the loading bar just keeps spinning indefinitely.
  • I have also tried sharing the camera and viewing it from another device, but the same problem occurs. There is no error message that shows up at any point.
  • All the devices are on the same network and can ping each other.
  • I noticed that "Server returned 400 Bad Request" was because I missed creating the account for RTSP after formatting. That issue is resolved but the stream issue which is the actual issue...  is not resolved.
  • I've been using `ffmpeg`, a command-line based video and audio tool with a player called `ffplay`. This normally works with my other four Tapo devices, including three C200 cameras and one C500 camera. However, this particular device has started acting up recently. The command gets the audio stream but doesn't retrieve the video. I can hear from the rtsp but i cant see the video ... there is no video.

Here are the logs for your reference:
