Privacy automation

Hi,
I am trying to setup a privacy automation in apple home or the Tapo app, but need some guidance.
I bought the Tapo C225 because of its physical privacy feature (hide the lens). I want to setup an automation so that privacy is enabled when a family member enters the home, and disabled privacy when last family member leaves.
I can setup a ios shortcut which sets privacy modes (enabled/disable), however that only runs on my local phone and does not take in to account if someone is left in the house. Same goes for the tapo smart automation, it does not take in to account that fact that there could be someone left in the house when I leave.
Any ideas how to achieve that the privacy feature is automatically enabled/disabled based on who comes/leaves the house?
Thanks for any input.

Hi,
After enabling the Geofencing feature on the Tapo app > Me > Tapo Lab > Geofencing page, you can add automation entries on the Smart tab > Automation page to turn on or off the camera's privacy mode when your phone arrives or leaves home. You can refer to the following instructions to know more details.
Geofencing: Automations with Your Location
You can add different Automation entries to set multiple mobile devices as the trigger device to turn on or off the camera privacy mode. However, each automation entry will take effect when the trigger is detected. For example, if you add two automation entries to turn off privacy mode when the corresponding phones are leaving home, the camera will turn off privacy mode regardless of whether the other phone is still at home when one phone is leaving.
By the way, the Tapo P100 is a smart plug, and it's usually unable to record if a person arrives or leaves home.

Hi @Chrisdo
A few options here depending on how "automated" you want this to be...
Option 1. if others in your house have the Tapo app on their phones then they could use the shortcut you have created and last person to leave will need to run it when they leave. The downside is you cannot share shortcuts and shared users do not have access to change camera settings including privacy mode. So to this you would need to share your account details and have them login using your account. Obviously a risk sharing your account which you will need to consider.
Option 2: purchase an S200B smart button and place it at your door. When the last member of the house leaves they press (lets say single press) the button and it disables privacy and when the first member enters the house they press (lets say double press) the button and it enables privacy. This requires some simple automation to be created. if you have a hub you could also chime when pressed to notify privacy has been enabled/disabled.
Option 3: Enable/Disable privacy when last person enters/exits the house using Geofencing "Arrive/Leave home". Unfortunately this only works for a single user/login and not across multiple users. However through some complex automation and purchasing some additional P100 devices (to hold a home/away state for each house member) I could I could make this work. It would require each member having an individual Tapo login on their phone and I wouldn't do it for more than 3 members due to automation complexity but I think it is possible for more. If you want to go down this wat let me know and I'll write up and share some instructions as I expect there are lots of people who would want to do this.
Happy to provide more advice on any of the above options.

@Rbuck, many thanks for the suggestions and elaborate response. Much appreciated. Here are my thoughts.
Option 1: I have no concerns sharing the login details since we are all family members (and very few), however I don't want anyone to have to remember to trigger a shortcut manually so this wouldn't be my preferred approach.
Option2: I had the idea of using a smart button as well. It would work, however it would still require the manual action and I would prefer if the enabling/disabling privacy was fully automatic. One thought on this; do you know if the action from the smart button can be automatically triggered in apple homekit?
Option3: Would this option shut power on/off for the camera? Or is your thought that the P100 just knows if each user is home/away. Can you elaborate a bit of your thinking of how this could work before putting to much effort in in to creating the automation :)
Thanks again.

In option 3, the P100 is only used to track if each user is home or away so the automation on your phone can then query it's status. It's not used to control any device/camera.
I did some testing of my theory yesterday and there may be an issue in the way the automation works that is impacting it from operating correctly. I will do some more testing today, however I need my wife home (and allowing me to access her phone!!), to prove my theory. Hopefully this arvo (Aussie time) and will let you know.

I have hit a snag in option 3 using Geofencing automation. Unfortunately when I turn on/off the smart plug via an automation (i.e. geofencing), it will not automatically trigger a subsequent automation to put the camera in/out of privacy mode. So option 3 will only work via shortcut in the other users accounts to turn on/off the smart plug and register leaving/arriving.
I have raised a support request to understand if this is a bug: Automation not triggering subsequent automation - Smart Home Community
I don't expect this to be resolved but thought it is worth asking.
This means you are limited to people needing to manually set they are leaving/arriving via a smart button - option 2 or a shortcut (on your account - option 1 or their own accounts - a variation of option 3).
Good luck and reach out if you try these and need some assistance.

I do really apprichiate your effort to help me find a solution. You have given me valuable input, and for now at least I know there isn't a simple solution to what I want to achieve.
I will post here if I find a way to trigger the privacy mode in a more automated manner for a household setup.

Thanks for the input.
If the automation does not validate if all users have left, the automation will not work in practial sense. If I leave the home (and my wife is still there), privacy mode is disabled (and detection is turned on) the camera will then be turned on in a situation where I dont want it to.
I basically want the exact feature that geofencing provides for a single user, but I want it to take the condition to validate agianst other household users. Apple homekit actually does this validation correctly (checks all members of the household has left), but apple homekit cannot trigger the privacy mode feature in the tapo camera. Homekit will only turn on/off the stream inside apple homekit.
