I'm baffled that this isn't a feature. So disappointing. Why hasn't this been implemented? It's ridiculous.

It should be a basic feature. I'm baffled that it isn't.

Hi,
Typically, when the Tapo camera works in the Night mode, if you have selected the Smart mode in the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Video & Display >Night Mode settings, the spotlights will turn on when the camera detects events.

In your situation, please describe the usage scenario you want to achieve, and I'll check if the Tapo camera can meet it.

Best Regards

So I'd like to set my TC82 outdoor camera in my garden to automatically turn on the spotlight when a person or dog is detected (during the nighttime when it's dark). The setup process for this automation is fine until I get to the last part, where I have to choose which detection light to turn on. The TC82 doesn't show up, only the light at the porch of my house entrance, which is ages away. I just want the TC82's spotlight to turn on and off when detecting people in my garden, but there doesn't seem to be any feature for that, other than turning it on/off manually. I've changed the night view from infrared to colour and it has made no difference. I think there's something wrong with either my app or the camera itself, or maybe I'm just a bit dense, lol.

Cheers,

Rhys

Hi,
For your usage scenario, it's suggested to go to the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Video & Display > Night Mode Settings page to check if the Smart Mode is available.
If so, you can select Smart Mode on the Night Mode Settings page, and then the camera will turn on the spotlight automatically when detecting events when the camera works in Night mode. Case 3 in the following instructions may help you.
How to configure the Spotlight Settings of the Tapo cameras

If the camera has only Infrared Mode and Full-Color mode on the Night Mode Settings page, it means the camera does not support the feature to turn on the spotlight only when detecting events at night.

Best Regards
